We need to get a few players out on loan until we can offload them at the end of the season - Mathers, Phelps (when fit), and Smith so that Gleeson can be accomodated.

Goulding needs to remain at the club. To paraphrase the great Wayne Bennett - if there is a choice between a 20 year old with potential and a top performing 30 year old he will always keep the young gun! Goulding to replace Carmont?

Heard from a very reliable source last night, that its a done deal and mathers going the other way plus some cash, decent signing but it still doesnt sort our hooking worries out, which i think is a main factor to our poor form this season so far

Tim Smith and Cameron Phelps should be sold or at least loaned out because they are not offering much to the Wigan squad and I would much rather see some over rated Aussies leave the club than a talented English youngster.

I'm sure Salford would love to have Smith and Phelps, and they can have Mathers as well buy-one-get-one-free.

We really don't need another thread on this rumour.

Locked.

The more I think about this the more I dont want Gleeson to come to Wigan. He is nearly 29 and has underperformed for years and has very few good games and lots of very average ones. He has built a big reputation on very little. I would rather we sign 2 good forwards for the money that Gleeson would cost.

In addition we all know about his off field antics and the club should be looking at reducing the number of players like this that we have at the club, not doing the opposite.

The biggest laugh of all is the fact that we may let a very promising 21 year old leave. Goulding could be the Wigan centre for the next decade and is a player who I believe has the potential to be one of the England centre's in the future. I have seen him outplay the likes of Yeaman, Hape, Atkinks etc but yet seems to get very little credit and has been made a scapegoat by Noble and a few fans. Indeed he should be playing now at the expense of an overpaid import in Bailey, a player who has done absolutely nothing all season to justify his selection and has played far worse than Goulding did in his 2 games this year.

It was on BBC Radio manchester this morning, said that Gleeson was coming to Wigan and that Mathers and Goulding were going to Warrington. Not sure what to make of this, glad to see the back of Mathers but not Goulding and anyway we need forwards not more backs

Whats with all the "Very Promising" "He's got potential" remarks about Goulding about, i just don't get it, he's had enough time to prove himself, as stated elsewhere, other youngsters have staked their claims for first team positions at other clubs, and are regular first team players, time for Goulding to leave if he is to further his career IMO

Also, if Warrington are playing silly beggars and wanting a transfer fee, then why doesn't IL just sign Gleeson for next season and do Warrington out of any moneys

cp merged the thread into the main gleeson thread. i think it annoys mods because it's the third seperate such thread on it... it will be merged soon methinks...

I have been checking BBC online and other sites all morning, nothing (as yet). If it's on the radio im guessing a published hard version (online) will be uploaded when the deal is complete. as it is, tis still a rumour.

Meds, we have a thread on Gleeson and we are sticking to it. Hence, the merging. Otherwise we would now have 4 Gleeson threads minimum. Geoff locking threads and CP merging threads wastes our time so we do not do it lightly.

Goulding? Young, very good player. Wigan were forced to play him because they had no choice and he never let the team down. Should he suffer because the club did not exercise it's famous duty of care? One could argue if we took the stance you are suggesting Joel Tomkins would not be here either. How long before people say get rid of Ainscough? get rid of Sam Tomkins.

The current Wigan team, is let down by the established players IMO. Some of us worry that a centre partnership of Gleeson and Carmont has a combined age of 60+.
