Results of Entropin's study of Esterom, an investigational drug for the treatment of acute shoulder pain, indicated that subjects treated with 10% Esterom showed clinical improvements. However, these results were not statistically significant when compared with subjects treated with placebo. The double-blinded placebo-controlled phase II/III trial, enrolled 173 subjects in 10 sites throughout the U.S. Each subject was treated on three consecutive days with a dosage of 10% Esterom or placebo control. Based on these results, Entropin has decided to forego further development of Esterom.
That's a non-starter, I suspect.
I think it has been used/tested more recently than 2002 but I'm not 100% sure on that.

From one source I found it had a few interesting points;

I) In trial 17% of people showed traces of benzoylecgonine in their urine and 5% showed traces in their blood.

II) It also says Esterom is to "relieve pain and increase the range of motion in patients suffering from acute inflammation of the shoulder or back" which is something that might be quite appealing to someone suffering from a recurring injury.

III) If applied topically (to the surface of the skin) benzoylecgonine can remain detected in urine for a long period of time.

Its only speculation but Hock could have been using Esterom or something similar to treat an injury and could have been caught out by the time it takes to leave the human body.

That's generally not an excuse. One would presume that any drug containing Benzoylecgonine would be on the banned list, and it's the player's responsibility to check that what he's using is legal.

Totally gutted at the news today, why o why would you risk loosing everything you ever worked hard for, for the sake of a quick buzz. This again is a massive blow for the club as a whole and puts us back into the light as a bad club which certain people love to feed off(not mentioning any names). The season IMO is done and dusted now, we don't have anyone with that desire to take us forward with ball in hand(apart from coley when he is bothered).

Im sure Gaz is gutted but he only has himself to blame.

This will obviously free up a chunk of cap space which is a very small plus point, proberbly not what some want to here but is fact. Not trying to see gaz out of the club tomorrow but from a business POV this is true.

Can things get any worse this season????

Taken from the net:

Q. Is there any other way for benzoylecgonine to be in your body other than the use of cocaine?

A. Benzoylecgonine is one of several metabolic products of cocaine. It is formed from the hydrolysis of cocaine and is a very specific marker for the presence of that drug. If, however, benzoylecgonine is found in the urine, it is not evidence of illicit cocaine use.
There are at least two other ways that cocaine can get into a person’s system. One way is from medical administration. Cocaine is a component of a topical anesthetic used by ear, nose, and throat specialists. These physicians should always tell their patients that they have used a cocaine-containing anesthetic and warn them that they could have a positive drug test for up to 48 hours after the use of the anesthetic.
Another, less obvious route of ingestion is drinking mate de coca, a coca leaf tea, which is also sold in health food stores as Health Inca tea. We reported a case in which a person drank some of the tea as part of a meal in a Bolivian restaurant in the United States. The next day he had a positive drug screen. Although the imported tea is supposed to be de-cocainized, some may still contain cocaine in small amounts.

Cant see a doctor using any treatment that contain cocaine on a sportsperson nor do I think he drinks coca leaf tea!

If it's true then it's a sad day for the club and the fans. I have no sympathy for Hock what so ever. He chose to destroy his career by taking drugs. If he was that desperate to take drugs then he could have waited until he finished his career - the irony is that his his career has just ended, so he's free to take as many illicit substances as he wants.

Worst season ever
