Mago on Hull KR win

Patrick Mago said the Warriors ‘enjoyed’ a big victory over Hull KR at the DW Stadium on Friday night.
Mago: “Wins like that really bring us together and obviously scoring a try in front of that crowd is definitely one to remember.”

Wigan forward Patrick Mago reflected as he scored his first try of 2023 in Wigan’s high-scoring win over Hull KR at the DW Stadium on Friday night.

“It was a really good game and the boys put in a good performance,” he said, “We knew they would come out strong but with a different team as well so we just wanted to focus on ourselves, put in a good performance for ourselves and we enjoyed that one.”

Mago crashed over for a try in the 66th minute to mark his first score this year: “It’s definitely not common for me but I enjoyed it. Harry spoke to me just before that and said hit me on the out and all I had to do was catch the ball and put it down so it was good.”

He added: “Wins like that really bring us together and obviously scoring a try in front of that crowd is definitely one to remember.”

Speaking on preparations earlier this week, Mago said: “At the start of the week we put a lot of focus on ourselves. We knew we wouldn’t be coming up against the same team from the other few games, we know they’re preparing for the Challenge Cup and we really just wanted to come out and put a good performance in.

Throughout the whole week we just made sure we were doing the little things right and making sure we played our best footy.”

Finally, the Warriors prop forward looks ahead to two-weeks preparation before Round 22: “We’re going to do a bit of camping and training off-site next week as well as a few days off. It’s important for the boys to freshen up our bodies and come in ready to face Hull FC the following week.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Went deliberately for Miski! Trying to get him high try’s score
Disagree, 23 was coming across to cover Field. French did the right thing.
There was no one in front of Field and he’d have scored easily. I doubt French knew someone was behind him and two his left was there anyway. He must have run 40m diagonally and was nearly forced out into touch.
You need to watch it back again on TV

2 players in front of French, not sure if left wing and full back or full back and right wing (depends where they were positioned for the break and difficult given we dont know any of the KR team). I've tried to screenshot but wont let me attach

however as French breaks he has a player in front of him (assuming FB) with Miski right and Field to his left. A HKR player comes into shot from French's left and he would have a good sight of him , so along with the there are 2 players directly in front of him, and i think thats why he went to the right

He perhaps could have given it earlier to Field, but Field would have had the same decision to make, and why when you are breaking through, and have French's pace, would you not drawer the opposition player and just give it to Field
