I think everyone is expecting too much from the lad. There is no way he plays in the big games.Firestarter wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2024 8:39 pm I have no problem bringing in farrimond sooner rather than later. We all saw what he had.He will only get better with experience and is obviously the best prospect we have had since sam tomkins

Re: Jai Field
From an attacking perspective, I think Farrimond would be fine in any game from what I have seen. The key thing is the strength of our pack. Assuming we play all of our big guns, he should be getting the ball on the front foot. He has already shown he has the vision and the judgement to know when to stick, twist or run. You can’t teach that skill (sorry, Rocky). I haven’t seen enough of him to know whether he can defend well enough, however. We have a gem in the making.

It's a really interesting one - what to do with Jack? We clearly don't want to rush him and knock his confidence but, because of the injury to Jai, we could do with him stepping up as early as possible. The other consideration is that we don't want to reduce his development or, more likely, have him thinking that he's being held back. I would argue that London are just a 'championship side plus' and Jack would find he has much harder against a top six SL side but should be O.K, against the other teams. The obvious route would be to send him to a championship side but I'm wondering if he's already passing that level. Whatever the answer, he looks like a gem and, as I've said before, I hope that we find a way for him to play alongside Harry too.
Re: Jai Field
If you are good enough you are old enough. So when Smith is back it's obviously a choice between Farrimond and Hampshire until Jai returns. The club doesn't owe Hampshire a starting slot and he really isn't very good.
If Farrimond can play alongside Smith I don't see what the club has to lose by doing so. Jai isn't out for the season so it would probably be for about four games which would be a nice little run in the team for Farrimond.

That view is too simplistic.DaveO wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:57 pm If you are good enough you are old enough. So when Smith is back it's obviously a choice between Farrimond and Hampshire until Jai returns. The club doesn't owe Hampshire a starting slot and he really isn't very good.

Whilst Farrimond had a good game against London and has clear potential, we don’t really know if he’s good enough yet.
The reason coaches take their time with youngsters, and this isn’t just in rugby league, is to make sure you take your time and get it as right and possible. There are many unknowns but the fact that it’s universal across sports to take your time and you only really know if they are good enough when they have played a number of times, in different conditions and overcoming different challenges.
Of course there are players who hit the ground running, there are some that get it forced upon them because of injuries but there are many who it takes a while to properly get them adjusted and up to speed.

It’s not, French could be selected at 6 which is my preference.DaveO wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 3:57 pm If you are good enough you are old enough. Big games no but he should have played last week perfect time it seems to me to get him in the first team Wigan can’t afford to keep these young lads back for the likes of Hampshire there’s a cautionary tale with Nicholson at wire (and no I’m not suggesting this would happen all I’m saying it could happen)Charriots Offiah wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 12:55 amI think everyone is expecting too much from the lad. I am not suggesting that Hampshire should play instead of Farrimond. My view is that French at 6 is better for the team at the moment. Nicholson was a bit different, we should have tied him down to a longer and tighter deal. Rads has learned his lesson with Junior and Jack.fozzie58 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2024 8:11 amBig games no but he should have played last week perfect time it seems to me to get him in the first team Wigan can’t afford to keep these young lads back for the likes of Hampshire there’s a cautionary tale with Nicholson at wire (and no I’m not suggesting this would happen all I’m saying it could happen)Charriots Offiah wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2024 12:55 amI think everyone is expecting too much from the lad.
