Who has he personally insulted?

That is a fair summary of the pros asnd cons of appointing Wane.cpwigan wrote: The strength of Wane will be that he knows all the young players and should be more willing to give them opportunities which was the case of disharmony betweeen IFL and Noble. The weakness will be does he have cutting edge NRL style knowledge of RL and can he supplement the very promising youngsters with truly class overseas players.
His appointment could be seen in a similar way to that of Mike Gregory. Mike had no 1st grade coaching experience when he took over but certainly had the respect of the players. Sadly as we all know we never got to find out if he could fulfil his potential as a top coach. To be honest I always thought he wasn't fashionable enough for Mo and DW and would have gone the same way as Endicott but with IL I reckon Wane would get a fair crack of the whip.weststand-rich wrote:I think most be people would accept Wane with an open mind and give him a fair crack of the whip.
He's 'one of us', he's done a job and crucially he has respect. His appointment isn't going to have me whooping and high-fiving around the office, but at the same time I'm not filled with worry and aprehension.
I agree they are not ringing endorsements and I have my doubts the improvements I think Wane would make would be enough to take us to another level given his experience is with the junior players.georgeorwell wrote:Hi Dave
I'm not trying to be clever when I say that Wigan is one of the biggest names in League and we should be demanding and getting the best. Terms like "cautious optimism" and "can't do worse" are not exactly ringing endorsements. As I see it, this next appointment just has to be the right one, or another three years could be wasted, financially as well as trophy wise.
So its catch 22 then? We are not very good so won't get a very good coach, so will stay not very good?mrs feka wrote:this is based on GO post earlier (Sorry not sure how to do quote).
Yes Wigan are and do expect the best, however we aren't exactly the best as we were known , we used to lead the way now we barely cling on at times. Lets face it and it hurts for the last few years (not getting at any coach or player here)we have not been what we fans have come to expect.
The likes of the smells and leeds and even hull kr seem to have superseeded us, in performance fitness and above all else playing and finishing position in the table.
Now your a good aussie/english coach, Wigan approach you, do you think by our current standards we are likely to attract someone all that great, given mr L tendancy for tight walletness.
It hurts to say and to see we are miles off what we were and will continue to be until we have a coach whom has respect of ALL the players and is not afraid of dropping those who aren't performing nor afraid of standing up to the board and doing it their own way.
Sadly were not as notorious as we were and will have to accept probably a lower rate coach than we'd like, we won't like it but will have to swallow it , until we can climb back up to our former status.
