Long had passed the ball, was not looking and he was tackled late. Terry Newton admitted as much and told us that it was his intention to crash into Long, hoping that he would re-bound into the player who by then had the ball, and so it was a deliberate late tackle.

Somebody tell me how Hooper on Sinfield differs from this and there are umpteen matches where Hooper has done that to kickers. :D

Have you bothered to read the RFL's justification for banning Newton cpwigan? It doesn't sound like it. (lol just read what was posted whilst I was writing this)

You can stop with the conspiracy theory you are sounding more and more like a Castleford fan saying the RFL chose to have them relegated.

So they picked on Cas to be relegated. They walk all over us, they ban Saints players for several months for betting and they are overly harsh on Huddersfield giving them the reputation of a dirty team. Hang on the RFL hate half of Super League!!

The thing is Terry Newton does not have a fantastic disciplinary record and if you read the RFL website (as kindly posted by Ancient Warrior) he admitted to a head high tackle on Gilmour and going in late on Long with the intention of him hitting his own player (i.e. so he'd get hurt). This is adequate justification for the punishment the RFL gave so stop whinging and live with it!

cpwigan, you are totally right about the RFL being too lenient on players like Pryce and McDermott but this is irrelevant when it comes to the punishment of Newton. Newton cannot question other players punishments only his own and the RFL have explained perfectly well why they gave him the punishment they did.

It is impossible for it to go unpunished so that other players understand that such violence as this will not be tolerated and so that the public understand that when things like this happen, we not only have a duty to do something but are prepared to do something.

WHAT ON EARTH DO THE PUBLIC HAVE TO DO WITH DISCIPLINARY. So if a game is low profile, lower league. THE PUBLIC is not an issue BUT if SKYs muppets and media create hysteria THE PUBLIC become important :D

other players understand that such violence as this will not be tolerated

Has the number of incidents DECREASED :D Has it heck. How are players going to understand that such incidents will not be tolerated when any incident BAR Newton is ignored or dealt with differently. BE FAIR and CONSISTENT and youll have an affect. REACT ad hoc to public outcry and pressure from on high and you may as well resign as your worthless as men and as a body. Every member of that disciplinary group should hang their head in shame. They are worthless

Bradford second rower Brad Meyers, placed on report for an alleged spear tackle in the Bulls' 71-0 play-off victory over Hull last Saturday, was told he has no case to answer and will therefore be free to play against St Helens in Friday's final eliminator.

:D Which is worse. A punch or elbow that may break a cheekbone or jaw OR a spear tackle that may leave a player disabled? If this is the RFL stance then we may as well not bother. THERE IS NOTHING MORE DANGEROUS THAN A SPEAR TACKLE but oh wait nobody cried, no hysterical reaction, ah it does not matter

You know, for the last 15 pages we have been going over and over the fact that he got what he deserved in some peoples eyes and didn't in other peoples opinions. Can people stop writing short agreements or disagreements that mean basically nothing and that we've read 60 times.

Rob sorry but that disciplinary body was told what was expected beforehand. Does it not happen, it comes out in matters far more important regarding politicians and other public figures. When previously unpublished document become available after 30 years or so you see what actually happened. To say pressure is not put on people from on high is naive.

Pie Eaters how can that the ban he got was what he deserved. People have done the same and they are walking away scot free. Tell you what, you go and drive your car over the speed limit and when the policeman stops you and gives you a 12 year jail sentence whereas everybody else gets a fine and 3pts well all say, ah you deserved it
