Exactly
I wouldn’t but if, as you say, we should be planning for the future then there is no future in KPP given he’s off to Newcastle in 2024.Dreamteam wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:49 pmThe only reason we are having this discussion is because bateman is leaving tho. As much as I don’t think he’s worth the money I wouldn’t release him from his contract so why would you release kpp from his one year early it just doesn’t make sense. People forget how young kpp is as well he’s not even played a full season in his actual position and he’s been around the first team over 2 years nowCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:36 pmBecause keeping KPP is short-term thinking. There is little point in letting Bateman go if we are not going to recruit.
Definitely.Gerrumonside wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 6:53 pm No doubt that if Bateman goes the team is weaker - defo need a replacement if he does go.
I’d agree with Nicholson but you can’t underestimate the power of playing in the nrl. If we had him on a longer contract someone would have paid the feeCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:22 pmAnd by the time he is 22 he won’t be here. Wigan has taken its eye off the ball, our future should have been KPP and Nicholson we have only ourselves to blame.
At least we would have got some recompense. Why haven’t other clubs seen a player drain? Saints seem virtually immune from this, they retain key players and that is probably why they are currently the top dog. We can’t keep letting talent go and replacing it with inferior players, especially those from down under, if we are to close the gap. SL is there for the taking, it is a second rate competition, but you still need the best players and coaches.Dreamteam wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:32 pmI’d agree with Nicholson but you can’t underestimate the power of playing in the nrl. They manage to keep the core together very well so when players are coming in they’re filling in positions that aren’t too influential. Benninson on the wing this year for grace, Hurell at centre but they’ve always kept walmsley Roby lomax while we have a new fb new halfs every few years. Frustrating but with smith we’ve at least got something to build on. Shame we can’t say the same about oneilCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:47 pmAt least we would have got some recompense. Why haven’t other clubs seen a player drain? We should have retained Williams and paired him with Smith.Dreamteam wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:56 pmThey manage to keep the core together very well so when players are coming in they’re filling in positions that aren’t too influential.
