No probs with shaun wane, think he's done marvels for our reserves the last couple years, and thanks to him we have the likes of sam joel mark F coming thro.
We do need a good coach and as ya are prob aware like many i'd dearly love to see god his majesty edwards here, but i'm a realist and know it won't happen any time soon
I wish Mr L would see the big picture but feel his business brain overrules his wigan heart (can't blame him in present climate) and he will only put up what he can afford under cap.
I would like to see someone really great come as coach Mr mcrae would be a great asset but as i and others have said we aren't in a position to attract big names the way our form has been in recent years.
I don't want to accept it, but it's a little late in the day if Nobby going , we've played our last match of season and not had any word who will be coach be it Nobby or A N Other.Unless and i doubt mr L has a rabbit in a hat somewhere.

FOI the salary cap has never been managed so well since the introduction of the cap at Wigan RLFC.
What does that mean though?

The cap is now "live" so you can't break it so staying under it is something imposed on club not checked after the event.

Our squad is paid up to the cap limit yet lacks the kind of to quality players Leeds, Saints and now Wire have.

If you mean there is a wage structure in place, OK but then see my previous point.

You can have a well managed cap but if you sign the wrong players you won't win any prizes.

The thing is about going for an already successful and experienced coach, we've tried that with the last two and they've been disasters.

No slating from me, I agree with you. But, playing Devil's Advocate, were those not the qualities that Agent Millward arrived with??

I don't think millward ever had the respect of the players.

I am sure if he is appointed that is how the club will try and sell it to the fans.

Unfortunately I think IL may be pushing his luck with some of them.

Look at it this way. He goes to Oz to sign a prop and a half back, signs neither and then decrees the home grown player route is the way to go.

He then looks to sign an NRL coach, fails and then decrees the home grown route is the way to go.

Is that too cynical a view?

I am sure some fans will think it marvellous that a team of Wiganers coached by an ex-Wigan player with Rads being fast tracked up the coaching ladder is the best news to happen in years but I am also sure quite a few won't.

By this I mean Wigan has always had star names either on the pitch or off it coaching or both. I think it would be much easier to market if we had got at least one top class player in for next season or announced someone like Kearney as coach.

So if IL appointed Wane and he had one or two top class players added to the squad I think most fans would be optimistic.

If we didn't get the two players but got a top class coach a lot of fans would expect him to improve over Nobby and bring modern idea to the club so a different reason to be optimistic.

Getting neither and the best you get from those without cherry and white specs on is cautious optimism which basically means we don't know what to expect!

And with Shaun Wane's name having only 2 syllables compared to Brian Noble's 4, the East Stand choir will struggle to scan it correctly into their 'Barmy Army' rendition!!

I remember George Fairburn being replaced by Bamford, then Murphy then Colin Clarke and McInnes before the great Graham Lowe came in, and while the first few went well enough Lowe took us to a different level.
It is probably wrong to go on appearance and the way in which someone speaks, but for me Wane does not project anything like as well as pretty much any NRL coach or assistant I can think of. Perhaps that doesn't matter. Nor has he the benefit of exposure to a much much stronger comp with vastly superior levels of scientific analysis applied to it. And that does matter. Fairleigh and Lam have both said they would accept the job. Either would be far more likely to take the club forward in my opinion.
I am naturally optimistic but I think Wane's appointment would be disastrous for the club. He would be even further out of his depth than Betts was.
Finally, we could make Wane assistant to an NRL quality coach and he pick up the reins after an apprenticeship, if he has enough talent after all.

Reading all these different opinions it does seem that Wigan is a club where the left hand hasn't a clue what the right hand is doing. The owner says he wants a coach from Aus then seems to be settling for an internal appointment. The owner went to Aus to find players and now seems to be favouring bringing in home grown talent. The coach has believed for some time now that he has no future at the club, so where is his motivation to do the best he can for the club?

Surely the owner must realise that every time he raises our expectations, only to dash them, he loses credibility and our respect. Regarding the coach, the owner displays a remarkable lack of understanding of human nature. By seemingly ignoring Nobby he has created a situation where Nobby is seen as a martyr. He should have sat down with Nobby months ago and told him he had no future at the club. He should then have paid up Nobby's contract and told him to leave. This would have removed doubt and uncertainty, as well as removing the possibility of a disenchanted employee causing dissent. It would also have allowed his internal preference the opportunity to get a taste for the job for a couple of months, without any real pressure.

For goodness sake get a grip Mr L, if for no other reason than that of securing your asset. A poorly run club loses games and fans and revenue, then how much would the club be worth?
