New Dog 'Locked' in

Warriors fullback Kevin Locke is set to be Ben Barba's replacement at Canterbury next season, say Sin Bin's spies in New Zealand. With Canterbury sources having ruled out an approach to England star Sam Tomkins because he is a ''done deal'' at the Warriors, Sin Bin was told Locke's agent, Daryl Mather, had been in Auckland this week and his move to the Bulldogs was imminent.

Shame as Locke would have been a useful replacement for Sam here

I think Locke's a massively improved full back these days.
His defence positionally is all a good full back needs, plus he is capable of linking up a la Sam to create space and he has good pace to get through gaps.

I was half hoping he would have been the "filler" in any Sam "deal".

Maybe he just doesn't fancy uprooting himself and his family, travelling to the other side of the globe just to make way for an untested over-hyped British kid?

Now this is exactly where Chairman Mo would come in handy. If there was ever a person who could persuade someone coming to Wigan was worth it for reasons other than money, he was it. The way he sold the place was legendary. The crowds, the atmosphere, the knowledgeable fans , the fact the town lived and breathed the sport.

It would all be positives for Locke to come here if Mo was selling the club to him.

Reading the report of last night's game in the Mirror. It seems the Hull fans are being treated worse than us. We have all known where Sam is headed even though there has been no formal announcement. Speculation about Tom Briscoe still involves Leeds Wigan and RU!

Dean Bell admitted on Radio sport about an hour ago....( our radio sports channel )

French Rugby are offering Tomkins a huge deal right now as are two English union clubs.

Bell acknowledged we are chasing Tomkins ( well that's a no brainer ) but the point of interest for me is that Bell is obviously being apraised of the competition for Sam via his agent ( Bell is our recruitment officer ) and it is unusual for Dean to share that Information publicly

French RU is even richer than the English RU.

If Sam goes to RU that is far worse from a PR perspective than him going to the NRL.

Sam signed his special "no talking to anyone else for three years" contract when his brother Joel signed for Saracens RU.

It was announced at the same time to sweeten the pill of losing one of our best players to RU.

If we lose Sam to RU within that three years the sport, our club and our chairman will look incredibly weak.

It's bad enough our chairman has supposedly agreed to sell him to your club in that period but to sell him to RU when his contract was clearly designed to keep him out of their clutches? Well, IMO, he'd have no credibility left if he did that.
