I am sorry but Gleeson is Class, why is it that only him and ellis were being touted for moves to the NRL.(Which Ellis went).
People on here have been saying for years that we needed class centres, we have one in george carmont and now if the rumours are true that Gleeson is to be a Wiganer, we have another..
I hear the cries that we need a prop (I have been saying it myself) but the fact of the salary cap and the transfer market because of it.. is that players in this case arnt always available and when the best players come available you have to snap them up.. otherwise you miss out..
The age old addage of " You Can't Please Everyone" is soo true..
YOu don't want aussies, you don't want experienced class british players, you don't think many of our youngsters are good enough.... Lets get in the real world people!!!
Tom chill mate. Message boards are about opinions. On here you have a wide spectrum of opinion.
I think you will find that several of us have supported Goulding consistently. I am even accused of being his father lol because I praise him. The Riversiders of which several here are members sponsor him. Quality outside backs are rare in SL. At Wigan I see only 2 Wigan produced centres of quality; Goulding and IThornley. Pryce might be too.
I have slaughtered Phelps because I believe he was a very poor signing. I still stand by that.
Martin Gleeson? Age is not on his side but he is a quality player and he will have to be because his salary necessitated he delivers week in week out and leads the younger players which at Wigan has been a key problem IMO. Namely that the experienced big earners have not stood up and led/made a huge impact as to how the team plays. I believe Fielden is dreadful in that respect.
Some of us rightly question Martin Gleeson. Tony Smith has basically told Simon Moran that Gleeson or Briers has to go. They cannot remain together at Warrington if he is to change the culture of that club. That send out worrying messages.
2 centres with a combined age of 60+ is a worry. Age alone is not the be all and end all. Afterall Gene Miles was 30+ and Gleeson was not in the same league as Miles. Personally, I think George has been ordinary in 2009 after a great 2008. Does that mean that in a year, 2 years we suddenly need 2 new centres?
Myopinion is that the culture of Wigan RLFC is not correct to become a very successful dominant team. I do not think Noble or any British coach is the right person for the job and question marks surround Lenagan's judgement.
Others on here will disagree or agree but they can. That is what a forum is about.
If you want to see Goulding given a ridiculously hard time check out RLfans.

In my opinion Wigan haven't really had two decent centres since 2002 when Wigan had Jamie Ainscough and Gary Connolly and even Jamie Ainscough had his fair share of criticism if I remember correctly.
2003- Jamie Ainscough - Paul Johnson (not a specialist centre)
2004 - Martin Aspinwal - David Hodgeson (both to young at the time and Hodgeson was more of a winger.)
2005 - Martin Aspinwal - David Vaealiki (Aspinwal was still young and DV was awful)
2006 - Pat Richards - David Vaealiki (Enough said)
2007 - Phil Bailey - Micheal Withers (neither were specialist centres)
2008a - Darrell Goulding (struggled sometimes too young) - George Carmont
2008b - Phil Bailey (not a specialist centre) - George Carmont
2008c Cameron Phelps (not a specialist centre) - George Carmont
2009? Martin Gleeson - George Carmont (If Gleeson comes and he plays well it could be Wigan first decent centres since 2002)

I was just going to post something similar. Wigan have struggled to set the right winger loose for sometime and though I may be being short sighted I think this will give us a player capable of doing that.
I would like us to keep Goulding but he has been inconsistent (due to being young) and we need results.
CPW who is the better prospect in you opinion between Thornley and Goulding? I saw some small clips of Thornley but not enough to make a judgment, what I did see looked good. Is it possible the 'management' think Thornley is the better prospect and it's worth the risk of releasing Goulding.

El Bob hard to say because Goulding is 3 years maybe more ahead of Thornley in development. I do not think we will see IThornley in the first team for another 2 years. He has bags of potential but it is hard to say how far he will go because given his sheer physical size he has simply ran through/over junior defenders.

Goulding hasnt been givin a fair run so you cant blame him for wanting to leave, Noble told him pre season he was gonna start the 1st game & gives him the number 3 then the 1st game comes along & he drops him with no explination & has spoken to him very little since, he has a contract on the table from Warrington which at the moment isnt good enough so is weighing up his options in union, he will not be leaving on loan what ever happens!!!

I know it is a done deal. However, he cannot come to Wigan unless they free salary cap space. He is on 150K at Wire.
Juan does Daz not think he can stick it out because IMO Wigan will have a new coach in 2009. I know Trent rated him highly and told him to stick it out.

No as Noble wont even talk to him & theres already enough money avaible in the salery cap for Gleeson & Wigan have also offered Danny Brough a contract & that will be sorted when Tim Smith leaves next month

So on that basis Juan, Lenagan was telling porkies when he said we have 25K left within the cap ?
