Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.

Exactly correct.TrueBlueWarrior wrote:It's called sport people, good luck to Sam, in my opinion when he has worn our shirt he has never let us down which is all I can ask for. The Wigan club will go on with or without Sam, that is all I need to know!

Hang on, I thought earlier on in the season the talk was that Sam didn't want to play full-back. Am I misremembering? Which is it, or is it both? :conf:First Try Tickle wrote:and no new scrum half as Sam doesn't want to play at scrum half.

My understanding of this story is Sam refused to play in the halvesmoto748 wrote:Hang on, I thought earlier on in the season the talk was that Sam didn't want to play full-back. Am I misremembering? I agree with th sentiment effectively Zak H will be Sams replacement and i cant imagine we will sign anyone else of note

Never heard that one, was under the impression that Full Back was the only position Sham wanted to play in, The prima-donna that he ismoto748 wrote:Hang on, I thought earlier on in the season the talk was that Sam didn't want to play full-back. Re: Tomkins Leaving - Official
The way i see this situation is Wigan gave him a 3 year deal with the option of a 4th in the clubs favour. We decided not to take up the option but still offered him a deal for a further 4 years which would be 7 since he re-signed. How is that unfair? Securing his future with a deal that was never on the table in the first place. We could have taken the option for next season and he could have broken his leg or something in the August and then would be injured and without a club with no security. We offered him security. If he can't realise that he has nowhere near earned what he has been paid and still wanted more then he is deluded.
He desperately wanted to leave NZ Warriors and come back home. We took him injured, paid him a very handsome salary and paid a hefty fee for him. He sat on his arse for the first season whilst collecting mega money and then in the second season acted like a prat and ruled himself for the season again. We still paid his wages and he never said boo to a goose. He then illegally met with Catalans and agreed a deal with them. I told you this 2 months ago. He wants to be more careful how he uses Whatsapp. I found out by a player of an opposition team. He can piss right off for me. Hope Catalans go down, i will laugh my cake off. Quite possibly the most selfish, self-important player in the clubs history.

If you signed a deal with your employer knowing the 1st season would be hit and miss due to injury then you where out the most part of the second season through to stupidity I’d hazard a guess in your third year you’d be looking elsewhere half knowing in the back of your mind the fourth option year won’t be offered.DaveO wrote:If you signed a deal with your employer that said they will pay you £x for three years then they have the option to employ you for another year in 2019 at £x but they then turned round to you and said we are not going to take the option up but will offer you a deal on less money for 2019 you'd throw a hissy fit.Flash wrote:Again you are absolutely wrong Dave. Where does this determination to think the worst of the club come from?DaveO wrote: Sam hasn't done anything wrong but the club has been unprofessional. You and no one else would arguing that this was an OK thing to do. The fact the club has not taken the option up doesn't alter the fact they wanted him to pay for less money for 2019 than the option would have paid him.
If anyone on here tells me they would be happy to accept that and would not have turned around and said "no, if you want me for 2019 take the option and we will take it from there" I simply do not believe them.
If the fourth year was offered on the same money or more depending on how your contract was agreed you’d be thanking your lucky stars.

Re: Tomkins Leaving - Official
I can kind of see the Club issue from both sides
on the one hand i agree that the club havent done anything majorly wrong, essentially they signed tomkins for 3 years with a 1 year option on that contract in their favour on that deal. They chose not to take that option and offer Sam a new deal instead thus the option (at old wage) isnt taken and can be discounted as it was never in the contract unless the club chose to take it which they didnt.
However, i do think DaveO has a point in that usually when you have a contract + option deal and the club in question choses not to take the option the player would usually leave because essentially saying "youre not wanted"
In this case Sam agreed to a 3 + 1 if the club wanted him, the club have waived the right of the + 1 but said we do want you though we just dont want to continue paying you on your previous contract
So while i dont think the club have done anything "wrong" as of such it is a underhand, they could of offered sam a 2 year deal + his option year on his old contract - like i say i dont think this happens that often because option years are normally taken if you are wanted and turned down if you are not, they arent often turned down but you get a new contract offer.
