I've emailed the following to Phil Clarke for his SKY column:

Hi Phil

Can you tell us who are the "experts and media representatives" on the voting panel for Man of Steel?

The award is intended to go to "the player who has made the greatest impact on the 2007 engage Super League season".

In recent years it has gone instead to "a player from the best team in SL" (as a Wigan fan, I hate to admit that is Saints!).

Saints would have been in pretty much the same position without Roby, so how can these experts say that he has had the most impact?

By contrast, without Barrett, Wigan would have struggled, yet again. He virtually single handedly got Wigan into the playoffs and within one game of both finals (CC & GF).

Roby is an excellent player, but "greatest impact"? I don't think so.

Exactly. Thats why the players player in football is more important than any other individual award.

I was thinking along similar lines, except that I'd have said Stacey Jones rather than the coach.

Roby is clearly a great talent but to give the Man of Steel award to someone who has played in only 12 matches (subbing off the bench) is quite surreal. Talented player but worthy of MOS award? 'fraid not.

at the end of the day we all know who is the true man of steel is. it's not that gob shite from stains.a player who only makes 12 starts gets man of steel, it's an insult to all the great players who have won it before.shove the award where the sun doesn't shine give me OUR TRENT over roby any day.

I don't think they picked Roby because everyone thought it was TB but I am pretty sure they have done it to be different. To be controversial.

I was actually expecting them to give it to Demitrou so they could be seen to be giving it to a player from an unfashionable club. That was the surprise I was expecting had Trent not won it but giving it to Roby is ridiculous.

He simply does not qualify for the award based on what it is supposed to be for.

An outrageous decision to give it to a player who comes off the bench compared to one who has started all bar one game in 2007.

At least Clarkey has sometimes admired Barrett's play during the season.

Well i for one will be writing to Setanta sports asking them no pleading them to outbid Sky sports for the rights to Super League then the personell will change with regards to Super League experts and it will change the face of Rugby League to a more un biased front.

Because the Saints Bias is so tiresome that its destroying the game of Rugby League.
