he was never going to be a play maker. just a solid tackler. not many people get past him. our attacking play is worrying though. non existent

Doug what narks me is if you compare the Wigan forwards 1 v 1 against any other set of forwards they are as good or better. The structure / set plays they use are by far the worst.

My thoughts on last night and the season so far...
1 - generally, grounds to be optimistic include more incisive centres and greater strength in depth in the pack;
2 - impossible to know how that game last night would have gone with a normal referee and 13 against 13. My suspicion is that we would have come back strongly and gone close. Take out their 2 tries when it was 13 against 11, and we drew;
3 - Hock is playing superbly well. Fielden needs to step up, and isn't showing enough yet. Coley has been a good signing;
4 - I think we are about the 4th best team, miles behind Leeds, well behind Saints, slightly behind Wire and ahead of the rest;
5 - we will improve as the season goes on - for some reason we always do. TB hasn't started playing yet;
6 - missing TB for a game or 2 might be a blessing in disguise, as there is talent elsewhere which would be more likely to find itself without him as constant go to guru;
7 - it is a really interesting competition this year, and every game is hard to predict with certainty. If we can keep JJB as a fortress and nick the odd away win a top 4 place will be ours;
8 - I am pleased by the development of the young players at the club. They can only get better as well...

Interesting people calling the wire supporters (just cause in some cases) But was my wife and I the only Wigan supporters that saw some excellently behaved so called Wigan supporters throwing coins at Morley???
Well done Morley for not reacting to these morons!!!

the forwards got bashed and beaten up - the pack is lightweight been saying this for ages now - we were making 20-30 yards per set of tackles and having to kick from well within our own half.
Was it GOD who put on here how we need another prop - then you have the option of dropping Coley into the second row for periods of the game.
O'Carrol was shown for what he is - a kid with great potential but too light for super league - get him on a long term contract and let him develop.
Hansen - great engine, great committment but too light - read a report he lost six Kgs in the winter - he should be gaining.
None of our back three (hansen, bailey, Lockers are going to smash through tackles)
Too much pressure on Fielden and Coley to make the yards as neither hooker is known for thier drives forward.
How we missed a player like flectcher in the second row.
But Gaz Hock was immense - putting his hand up for man of steel

Lucky I have Hock on my new shirt he is really standing out so far in this stint. An eye on Australia come the end of the year? I hope so, makes his game even better - leadersfip - workrate and the donkey work he does doesnt go un-noticed.

I missed the game BUT, after watching on telly, i'd still have wanted to pay £17 to watch us because there were glimpses of quality last night. barrett has, in many fans' views, underperformed or been missing but he showed some vision to pick out Colbon and a few decent kicks.

We arent a crazily dull team, yes we're still behind \Leeds/ Saints but we will be until, 2009? Remember we were up for relegation in 2006 we cant expect immediate successes. Im sure we will play like we did against Bradford and pick up again from where we left at the JJB. The fact Mathers is out doesnt really matter much, it's TB we must start to miss if his report gets punished.

Higham/ McIlroum do what they do well, run forward quickly and tackle hard. I think our problem if our movement of the ball. I'd love to see the ball thrwn from one side to the other freely and regularly instead of a go-forward attitude from tiring forwards

It's a tea party going to Wire now compared to the 80's and early 90's

Problem is Doug pretty much everybody is saying we are light weight in the pack with exception of Feka.

If Saturday is anything to go by our pack will be dominated more than they will dominate this year.

Ive got to say im looking at Noble at the moment to come up with a plan B as he doesnt have the luxury of a pack that can biff and bash like he had at Bradford. and i dont think anything will happen until we get dry pitches then we can start to throw the ball about more than we are

I hope!
It's pretty much the same pack that dominated against Bradford, though. They just need to produce that performance every week.
