I too thought that we were in for a mauling last night - I couldn't believe the way we played in the first half - Richard's try was a beautiful move.

It was nice to see TL take the line on - he was a real handful for the Leeds defence and his kicking from hand was good too.

I thought that Carmont had a really good game; he was strong in defence, made some good runs and his pass to release Richards for the try was as good centre play as you will see.

The defence was what won us the match - even Feka did more tackling!

Our discipline was better too; even though I thought Ganson ref'ed with more common sense than usual (and it's not often I say that!), we didn't give any silly penalties - like Peacock did with the flop

If we continue to play with that commitment and drive we might actually have a decent season!

As I started the gloomy thread after the Stains match, I began baking a humble pie half way through the Leeds match and me and the missus have just finished it. It tasted crap but I bought the flour in St Helens.
We looked good from the very first set. Young Thomas had a great match ; Richards has become a real class act (no relation to the Richards of 2 years ago?) ; Carmont is a great signing ; all the props stood up, including Eamonn ; Mathers matched Brent Webb stride for stride and the much-maligned Liam C did pretty well. Thought Lockers was in a fair bit of pain, especially near the end. If we'd had Gareth on the bench, we'd have put at least one more try past them.
Our defence reminded me of Monie's Wigan a times.

tremendous display from the youngsters included especially coyle an absolutely brilliant debut from him with full credit to tommy 4 taking us round the pitch with authority but like noble said on the super league show today, the one thing we need to do now is build momentum from this and in his words "kick on" from the win

I was stranded in London for a family do, didn't even find out the result till I went out for Sunday's paper this morning! No TV, no internet...blerrgh!

Still catching up on all the posts on here and the press reports, but it's nice to see all the "half-empty" guys on here!

Dont know about humble pie.I thought that if we played like we did against Wakey,KR or saints we would have got tonked last night.But we didnt we had at least in the 1st half we threw the ball round (centres & wingers have never had as much ball in space),we had dummy runners and set moves.Our defence was outstanding.In the 2nd half we did what we had to do and to grind out the win.The conditions were,nt good last night yet we played some flowing rugby.One thing that stood out was that Ganson let the game flow and didn't low up for every thing.

I too predicted a massive loss for Wigan, saying that the only hope we had was of lousy weather to prevemt us losing by 50+
My, it's good to be wrong in these circumstances!
I hope the performance on Saturday shows the lads that although Barrettt is a genius, it doesn't mean every play has to go through his hands.
Tommy Leuluai and Lockers both improved their attacking game on Saturday, So when TB comes back (Yes, I know Thomas Coyle was amazing, but I can't see him replacing a fit Barrett just yet.)I means we should have far more options going forward, so the opposition won't know precisely who to target.
Defensively the lads were fantastic, the line hardly ever broke, all coming forward as one man.

i also feel very smug!

it was tough last week just sitting readin post after post and not replying (ifd i'd replied to one i'd reply to them all and i'd of gone mad with a few peoples comments)

It's a good performance I always knew we had a chance, even though towards the second half I was biting my nails.


Thats what RL is, excitement and entertainment.

Even if we had lost it still wouldn't have mattered due to our performance overall... who needs Barrett?? when we have Coyle*

We have beaten Leeds using the same tactics against Hull KR and Wakey. Its boring but effective.

If you think Wigan won because they played exactly like they did against Wakefield then you need your noggin examining!

I admit that I gave the side a fair bit of "bashing", deservedly so to imo - whatever anyone else may think.

Brilliant defense and especially some creative first half play combined with a better kicking game throughout were the major improvements. Perhaps also, as CP rightly said, the loss of Calderwood Coyle at 6 and the moving of Mathers from stand-off to full back with Richards on wing, was a blessing in disguise.

Anyways, I am not ashamed to admit that this was a much improved performance effort, tactically and "ball in hand" than of late. I too also expected them to lose, so credit were it is deserved - well done lads!!!!
