We have too many youngsters now.

These three alongside 3 more of McILorum 20, Prescott 22, O'carrol 21, Tuson 18, Ainscough 19 and we wouldn't be fit to contest in the national leagues.

And they still managed to field 3 internationals on the bench with Scully missing, you want to rely on Mossop?

No but it would be good to have seen some of our youngsters gain the same experience as Clough or Eastmond etc. To be honest DOD you are right, no youngsters should be subjected to Brian Noble and our senior players in their state of mind which is the great tragedy.

Goulding, McCilorum and Prescott have had a fair go this year haven't they?

I do tend to agree with you about the youngsters, but we can't mustn't play them all at once.

The only problem re the youngsters. IL or whomever has decided they was a Kieron Cunnigham hooker. Higham did not fit that bill. Apparently Ridell does because he is chunky (he has lost weight this year, I hope IL can recognise him). If we accept that premise then McLlorum, Sam Gee, Brett Robinson, Logan Tomkins may as well be sold/released because none of those fit that criteria either.

They sign an enforcer. He retires in 3 years. Prescott and O'Carroll are who they are so you still end up with no enforcer.

I always thought in the short term coaching was about cutting your cap according to the cloth and thus you looked at what your players can and cannot do and play to their strengths.

That is the problem - too much short termism!

All clubs sign and strengthen their sides (apart from Leeds this season, and haven't they hit the "bumpers" because of it). Nothing wrong with Wigan doing the same.

St Helens made no new signing for 2008. They promoted very young players to their first team squad.

What I am saying BM is you have a vision of where you want your squad to be in 3 years time but in years 1 and 2 you have to play according to the abilities and talents of those players not the dream vision that is 3 years away. Any coach that asks players to do what they are not capable of will fail.

I think that the reason stains introduced young players only this season, was the need to offer new deals to the likes of Roby and Sculthorpe, that left them no cap space to sign anyone. (Well they have to stay under the cap somehow )

If you listened to IL last night this was his vision of the club to promote young players and have established players around them hence the signing of the players off contract this season for 3 year contracts apart from Higham ,Calderwood,Colbon.
His planning is that all the players will mature together with 5 overseas players in 2010 and plans are in place for this.

Hi CPWIGAN, glad to see you have calmed down, I thought you were on a mission this week, I was going to perscribe PROZAC. I totaly agree that the young guys are given a chance, if IL had asked the question to the fans at the forum, he would be aware that we would rather see our kids giving 100% and loosing, rather than overpaid players going through the motions with no fear of being dropped.
This team plays the worst style of rugby I have seen in 45yrs of watching Wigan, and if IL doesnt change it soon, then I feel his hope of 20.000 crowds may become 2.000.
I would also say to IL that it is not the amount of time that a coach works that is important, but the quality of the work he does when he is there, ask John Monie, one of our great coaches.
