Re: Todd Carney 1 year deal.

Got a hot rumour from a source inside the club, or just something you heard down the pub? Then what are you waiting for, post it on The Rumour Mill.

Well that says 1 yeat deal with the option of another year for 2010. Same as Smith.

What chance of them both leaving at the end of 2009 having rehabilitated their careers with us? Very high IMO.

Dave
Very true Dave. However I do hope Wigan do not waste the time and effort in bringing this player over, similar to "wasting" Trent's talents.

Absolutely great, another wayward Aussie taking up part of the salary cap,and a half back at that.We did not need another half back,we are desperate for forwards but it appears we are stuck with the same powder puff pack.I never thought id say this but its time Mr Noble for you to go.

Yes i begin to agree with you, although you have to question is it nobles purchase or mr lenagens.
Either way we don't need another aussie taking up money on the cap.
He may be a good player but his reputation off the field is not so good, and this could have an effect on our clubs reputation.
We will have to see, but yes it makes ya mad to see an aussie where a british lad should be.
There must be some players in this country we could have.
We've missed out on carvell and others because we're not quick enough. We let Higham go and there are some worse players in the squad.
I wonder if we will ever reach the dizzy heights we had 5 years ago, and finally get a trophy for our cabine

So who are we supposed to be playing at stand-off, the invisible man?

Get real.

Just because the problem of Barrett's departure has upset the apple-cart re our recruitment plans, that doesn't mean we can just ignore it.

I can't help but wonder if all these "drink problem" incidents are being hyped up in the Aussie press. Don't forget that in Qld /NSW the NRL is as big as the premiership over here. I'm not saying that all the incidents are minor offences that are blown out of proportion, but considering the press coverage that the football players get over here, maybe that's what's happening over there.

I think it might have been CPWigan (not sure if it was) who alluded to the fact that the NRL seems to have got a bad reputation and that they are being seen as nipping the problem in the bud by having an almost zero tollerance policy.

I may be way off, but I've only found a couple of reports about each players indiscretions. Compare that to over here, Willie Talau (apparantly) had a fight with a doorman in St Helens, Gareth Raynor has a fight and racially abuses a doorman in Blackpool, even our own Feka has been convicted of assault. All these incidents occurred after a night out and they were given almost no media coverage at all. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to condone what any of the players on either side of the world have done. I'm just asking the question, is it all as bad as the Aussie media is making out?
Someone else also mentioned what would the media coverage have been like if Feka had committed his assault in Sidney or if Gareth Raynor had fought and racially abused a doorman in Brisbane? I suspect they would have had the book thrown at them. Look at how Fletcher was dragged over the coals for a racist slur during a match.

Like I said though, I'm not condoning what has allegedly happened, I'm just trying to look at the bigger picture. We still don't have a replacement for Trent, with both Smith and Leuluai being Scrum Halves, granted they may be able to deputise as a stand off but having a specialist stand off in Carney is surely a better option.

Granted it's only for a year (possibly two) but our plans have been thrown into somewhat dissaray since the news that Trent was leaving a year early. We have had to put contingencies in place that we wouldn't normally have had to make. A lot of fans are asking why can't we use young Sam Tomkins? I was under the impression that he is also a scrum half and as such would still leave us without a stand off.

Just my thoughts though, no doubt there will be a lot of people disagreeing with me and we are all entitled to our own opinions.
