This is to do with Whelan who was supposedly livid that the game had been stated as Friday night as Latics play Sunderland (I think) at home on Saturday. Maurice Lindsay last night said he would talk to Whelan and try and get him to agree to the home tie but apparently it is not to be. Think it stinks really but as it is his beloved Latics how else would you expect Whelan to reactDue to the non-availability of the JJB Stadium for Friday evening, September 12th, the Wigan Warriors home Play-Offs game against Bradford Bulls will now take place at another venue which is likely to be the Stobart Stadium in Widnes or the Halliwell-Jones Stadium in Warrington.
It is expected that final arrangements of venue and ticket details will be confirmed and announced on Monday 13th September but this announcement is made now with the wish to give fans as much notice as possible of the forced change. Fans should monitor the website for the announcement of details.
Wigan Chairman, Ian Lenagan, said:
“The players performed extremely well against St Helens on Friday night to earn a home game, strongly supported by the Wigan fans, and we are naturally disappointed that the JJB cannot be made available for our Play-Off game against the Bradford Bulls on Friday nightâ€.
“We have explored fully with the RFL the options of playing on Thursday or Sunday but neither is possible for competition integrity issues and we prefer to play on a North West ground of our choiceâ€.
“We are looking at all options to facilitate as many of our fans travelling on Friday since we would like to make the chosen venue as much a Wigan venue as possible."
