But but we only have 1 quota spot
Re: Richard Moore
People can say this and that but losing Calderwood and Stanton just looks more and more like awful business. We knew what Calders could do and Stanton had the potential. For a saving of what ? a few thousand we now have to find a winger.
Re: Richard Moore
For once, I agree entirely with what you are saying. I only hope that the club (coaching staff) offers Ainscough a proper chance to prove himself. He played in the pre season games last year and looked pretty good, then we saw nothing of him all year.cpwigan wrote:People can say this and that but losing Calderwood and Stanton just looks more and more like awful business. It may have just gone up to five.
This has been posted on rlfans:
I have not seen this mentioned on any of the news sites yet but it looks like a press release form the RFL. I normally get these as I am a mod on rlfans as well but I think the spam filter at work blocked it as I have not received a copy. The RFL wrote: Super League Clubs agree extension to exemption of club trained rules
After consultation with engage Super League clubs at this week's end of season meeting, the RFL board has approved an extension to a recent exemption to the club trained rules.
At the meeting held in Harrogate, engage Super League clubs unanimously agreed that the club trained rules should remain and that a number of players registered in the competition prior to the adoption of the club trained rules should count as federation trained players.
Clubs also agreed that any legal case brought against the RFL for introducing such rules should be defended vigorously.
Rod Findlay, the RFL's in-house lawyer said: "The club trained rules were introduced at the start of the year to increase the number of home produced players in the top flight. Clubs are fully behind these rules and reaffirmed their support this week.
"What this extension does is accommodate those players who have made a career in the game before they were aware of the possibility of club trained rules. Long term once the people qualify for the current exemption retire the club trained rules will do what they were designed to do and that is bring through more home grown talent."
To take advantage of the extension of the exemption a player must apply to the RFL to be 'federation trained' at the end of their current contract. They also must have registered with the RFL prior to 1 February 2008, the date when the club trained rules were introduced.
Their status as a federation trained will then apply throughout their career, even if they move clubs in the future.
Anyway this will mean Feka, Bailey, Richards and TL will be considered federation trained for the rest of their careers. So in effect would could sign 5 overseas players for 2009 as their slots are freed up and we had one space left but not long term as new players (in contrast to those four) would never become federation trained. Phelps and Smith will not either as they arrived after Feb 1st 2008.
I personally hope we don't end up with yet more overseas players so we end up with 9 or 10 but with this rule relaxed it it would not surprise me if we did.

Re: Richard Moore
Reviving an old thread here (and an old rumour)here but in the League Weekly their is an artilce once again linking Richard Moore with us - but my main focus on this was it mentions a possible warrior going the other way on loan which had me thinking who - Coley, Prescott, O'Carroll, Mossop or someone else - anyone got any whispers or ideas
Re: Richard Moore
Not sure when we did so BUT we did offer Wakefield £80,000 for Moore.
Re: Richard Moore
If we have the money then lets spend it on transfer fees as we can't use our income on the salary cap.
Do we really want Moore- maybe as a backup possibly but he is not better than Coley and doesn't give the option of covering the second row like Coley does.
In my opinion Coley, Moore and Prescott are all what would be ranked as a 4th prop - we need another solid starting prop alongside Fielden, Feka as the impact off the bench and then one of the 4th props
