I cannot remember my first game but it must be 1958/59
I remember helping to remove straw from the pitch on boxing day morning so that it might be fit for the saints derby.
And the braziers dotted around on the harder ground.
The match that does stand out in the memory though was a challenge cup replay against Leeds on a Wednesday afternoon (before floodlights)45000+ in attendance. I think Wigan closed down for the day. Wigan won, of course,
but I cannot for the life of me remember the date. We lads always sat on the wall near the entrance before we were promoted to the cop end and later the stands. God, what would 'health and safety' make of that wall now.
Is there anyone out there who can help me with the date?

Thank you ANCIENTNLOYAL. Many memories from those days.
I well remember a winter scrum when the ball disappeared.
It was tucked up Frank Colliers shirt, who, once the scrum broke, kept his back to the ref. Much merriment.Do we still have humour or is it all now much to serious I wonder.

My first match is in the record books. Think it was 1958 Wigan-Saints with something like 47,000 in Central Park. I was 10 and went with my dad and granddad. Didn't see a thing the whole match except the backs of hundreds of blokes with flat caps and Woodbines!
