Time to move on
Re: Time to move on
I read your post above Clipper, and wondered if you have been going to the same matches as the rest of us.
As RJ pointed out regards the "regular" fullback, is it Mathers you were refering to? He is happy in his own little world, well away from the first team, me, being an "old fogie" remember the previous worst Wigan fullback to put on a shirt Jimmy Birts, Mathers has now taken over that mantle, the one thing that still worries me is that he is still on Wigan's books. You say that you are a new addition to Wigan RLFC watching, welcome on board, I wish I had your enthusiasm but I have lost it over the past 3 seasons since we were "saved" by Mr Noble.
We have not "kicked on" in terms of team building, just balancing the books to cater for Mr Noble and Mr Fielden's pay packet, both of whom are not doing the job for which they were taken on board for.
I am glad you have become a season ticket holder but, the "many more" waiting to become supporters? I think that is a myth. If the Sky comentators can "talk the talk" to promote themselves clever and contraversial, then Wigan supporters can "walk the walk" by showing their own true feelings about a once great club.
If by "showing-up" themselves, and this once great club, and things change for the better, then it would have been worth it.

I think what's annoying, for me anyway. Is that every team has supporters who leave in droves when they are getting beaten. It just because the term "Wigan Walk" rolls off the tongue, so to speak. When we're beating someone comprehensively, I've seen opposition fans pouring out of Knowsley Road (although not recentlyancientnloyal wrote:clipper... bbc gmr radio mentioned after huddersfield's penultimate try "And that signals the Wigan Walk"... and repeated again for their last try "The wigan walk is in full flow"
annoying as it is, it's true.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Re: Time to move on
I dont understand why people are focussing on the Wigan walk (which was awful on Friday). My original point was that I orginally supported Nobby but have lost faith and dont like the style of rugby (five scoots and a kick) that he instils in the players.
Whatever happened to Billy McGinty's pineapple?
Re: Time to move on
I agree absolutely with Sutty and Josie in that this hackneyed phrase is annoying when one sees the same thing happening at most other grounds passing with little comment. Unfortunately it has been promoted by the likes of Sky's commentators who delight in bringing it up. I believe also that it is more obvious when the team is as well supported as ours as the stands are more full. Grounds with 3000 on look empty to start with.
Re: Time to move on
Agree with Sutty that to some extent the "Wigan Walk" rolls of the tongue, I always listen to the commentary on GMR even when I'm at the match and Jack Dearden came out with it the other night not just towards the end of the game but also in his summing up afterwards and whilst he alleges he wants us (and other local teams to win) I always feel he is laughing up his sleeve when we get beaten, Trevor and Phil are far more neutral than old Jacko.
The other thing is that some clubs would give their eye teeth to have the number of supporters that we have so it is more noticeable if a number of our fans leave early simply because we have more there in the first place.

Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Re: Time to move on
I didnt want to talk about the WW but seen as you are all so sensitive I think we do have the most fickle fans in SL.
Alright we are one of the best supported teams in SL but if we are getting battered 80% will bugger off with 10 mins or more to go.
I think it is awful. I always stay till the end.
I think we will get tonked by Saints on Thursday week and will bet anyone that the ground will have less than 10k (including Saints fans) left at 75 mins if we are being battered.

Back to your original point. I have long held that view. Our game plan (we do have on, I think) is far too loose, simple and dependent upon individual players pulling off some fantastic feat of brilliance. SL is not the NRL but even so every player is fit, every player by and large can tackle. If you do not come up with methodical planned RL you will find it hard to beat anybody bar Salford and Celtic who will need 2009 to adjust.East Stand Faithful wrote:I dont understand why people are focussing on the Wigan walk (which was awful on Friday). The answer lies with top NRL coaches. Having an Australian accent does not = success. Kevin Walters is an example of that. If he had been a talented coach, Bennett would have kept him. However, the best NRL coaches are ahead of what British coaches can offer especially now SL has taken the decision to slow the game down and force teams to play RL rather than scoot into referee induced gaps. Matterson, Morgan Potter etc are now at an advantage over their British counterparts.
RL is the only sport where the referee controls the pace of the game.
Re: Time to move on
CPW do you not think that no matter which coach was at the helm working with the same players the results would be the same? We have no direction on the field because we dont have any half backs, TL is not a scrumhalf and ST hasnt got enough experiance this coupled with a lightweight pack means we are bolloxed.cpwigan wrote:Back to your original point.
