Does anyone on this site honestly believe Potter was incapable of working out a players weekness. I would expect each club has a full dossiar on every player in superleague, Also the statement by noble was not so nearly as clearcut as some make out. Personally I saw little wrong in the interview but with the campaign to remove noble it was blown out of all proportion,

I personally think Ainscough has been over hyped by fans.
However, Wigan RLFC need to take some responsibility re his development. Ainscough like others, spent far too long in the Junior Academy. This is his first full season as a reserve and the first team which is crazy. He should have been in the reserves far sooner or on loan. Results seem overly important to Wigan RLFC at levels below the first team. What was the point of Mike Priest for example being a reserve regular in 2008 and then released whilst Ainscough was still often playing academy games.
Shaun Ainscough needs to be able to heed coaching advice. He must show that he can and thus improve. When Shaun Edwards came to the club he was not happy with the conditioning etc so he went to other sources for help.
As for Noble. How does one believe him? His public description of Dave Halley was at total odds with what he said about him in the scouting sheet given to the players for the first game of the season v Wakefield

The club needs to use the loan system far more than it currently does.

What would they do with Roberts, who is just as bad defensively, and nowhere near as potent in attack?

Sorry I thought Roberts played at number2. Must be watching the wrong player.

Makes no difference what number he is he's just as suspect and plays wing. Roberts playing right does not excuse poor play.
The thing is here Roberts has been just as likely to miss a tackle drop a kick be out of position and more likely to loose the ball through poor retention, while in the process he makes less yards and score less tries but keeps his place.
I do think Roberts has improved and that he could be a good player for us. The problem is that he offers nothing more than Ainscoug could, hes probably on a much larger contract and takes up a quota spot which could have been used on a quality player instead of a cheap option with issues.
The problem lies with our lack of faith in youth, we have to have an injury crisis before a player gets some game time. Sam would have played a bit part but for Smiths inury, he has been our top performer. Flanagen has had no game time but played very well when given the chance. Mossop goes out on loan to a team above us and plays first team. Ainscough scores over one try per game!! and whats highlited his good atack or poor defense?
Fielden has been our poorest forward, and then Ocarol gets dropped who then got injured in reserves he was our form prop at the time. Goulding was always targeted and used as a scapegoat while on more than one ocasion Carmonts poor defense off his left shoulder lost us games.
Would you say the lads who played against Saints on Friday from our youth set up played with the sort of passion we have missed in so many derby drubbings over the last few years?
We have the backbone of a good team, not all young players will make it but on the evidence so far they are as good as Roberts and show better body language as too the comitment for the club.
