I think he'll just keep getting better! He has exactly the right attitude (as do Joel & Logan) to keep working on improving his game.

I'd like to think so. Both Sam and Joel appear to have their heads screwed on the right way.

I don't think Madge will allow them to get too big for their boots and to be honest they appear to reflect the new club culture as opposed to the King Street Culture.

First saw him play in a pre-season friendly (friendly ?) at Warrington 3 years ago. As he came on as a sub two thoughts entered my head. 1/ does his mum know he's out? and 2/ he might snap if someone tackled him.
However after a few minutes it became clear that he was a real talent and could really play, but I could understand that it was hard to believe, so I'm not surprised that his class wasn't recognised at the start.
The next time I watched him play was against Whitehaven in the 100point demolition and Sam scored 5 tries - not a bad debut!
Since then he has grown into the first team and there isn't a team in the world who wouldn't snatch his hand off to make an offer.
Right now he's with us, and so is Joel, and long may it so remain.

Also watched Logan at Leigh in Feb this year and again you could see some class.

I reckon Mrs Tomkins has done a pretty good job with those lads!

I think he'll just keep getting better! He has exactly the right attitude (as do Joel & Logan) to keep working on improving his game.

Just like everyone else I think he's an exceptonal talent, one fault if there is one is his decision making at certain times, towards the back end of the season teams often knew of his new role of running into the line as a second or third wave option.

I feel he sometimes he could mix it up a bit and a few times I felt a bit frustrated as to why he never passed instead of 'showing and going' through the hole to be tackled. Suppose it will come with age as he develops into a more rounded player.

As good as he has been for us this year I commented during the first half of the GF in particular that he was guilty of trying to do a little bit too much himself rather than looking for supporting runners. The fact that most of the time he manages to find a gap and makes good yards makes this a minor criticism of a great player but I totally agree with you.

That's true, although I do think he's learning in that regard. I think the try he set up for Goulding in the HKR playoff game showed that (when he ran all the way across the line, where they had to be expecting him to cut inside himself, which created the overlap).

If Sam continues his development he could become a "once in a generation player" and he probably has the coaches around him to allow him to succeed. The problem is all good players have their price. The salary cap restrictions might ulitmately mean he will leave - going to kick and clap would be a waste of talent (Ashton) but MM might want him in Oz someday.

Hope he stays and achieves everything with Wigan first.
Then I would have no problem with him leaving for OZ.

Interesting seems that McNamara has him at scrum half in the team against NZ Maori's :doz:
