Irvine is a pawn for Noble. They dined together over the course of the 4N. Noble went to the press saying the same but worse and hey preston Irvine says that same. Therein lies part of the problem with British RL, it is a closed shop with the media and certain figures looking after each other.
Noble made a stupid claim and was incredibly hypocritical.

So CP, do you not agree with him that the Salary Cap is now restricting our game?
Re: If we want a better International Team
Yes and No KW.
Firstly we have the hypocritical Noble who supposedly cares for British RL but has an abysmal track record at Bradford, at Wigan and at Crusaders in terms of developing British talent. For a former GB coach to be the worst culprit in terms of importing overseas players and choosing not to develop young British players negates any right he has to blame it solely on the salary cap. Hypothetically, if no SC existed what would Noble do. He would spend it on overseas players, he would kill the careers of young British players and the money would be drained from Britain to Aus/NZ over paying players from the NRL.
Secondly we have ludicrous Noble claiming that his Bradford team would have destroyed Wigan 2010 and Leeds/St Helens 2009-2007. Utter rubbish IMO.
Has the standard declined YES but Mr Noble aided by his good friend Irvine want to rewrite history. The standards of players on the whole have been declining ever since the salary cap came into being. That does not mean the champions from 2000 were better than 2001 and that they were better than 2000 and so forth. Since the salary cap was introduced there have been coaches that have introduced far better methods than previous years. At one stage and I hate to say it but Millward brought the flat attack to Britain and prospered just as Brian Noble benefitted from Brian Smith/Matthew Elliott introducing new NRL methods. Tony Smith brought new methods to Leeds, Nathan Brown and the best in a long time Madge bringing new methods to SL. So new coaches normally overseas help fight dropping standards and move the game forwards. The jobs for the boys British establishment harm the game.
The struggle is that as the overseas loopholes have closed, as Union become more professional/richer then the pool of the highest possible talent becomes less and less and more and more RELIANT on British young talent. At No TIME did Noble or Irvine hold their hands up and in Nobles case he has had what 20 years to do so and said you do realise that if the supply of British youngsters is insufficient to meet demand and we restrict the amount of overseas players then it is going to become harder and harder to maintain standards and have top quality international teams. WE MUST DO SOMETHING. Irvine could have used his golden media position to voice such fears and Noble could have used his position, his media access to bang on drums so loud that peoplwe in PNG would have heard him. Irvine said nothing and took the money, Noble said nothing, perhaps pretended otherwise and too BIG money.
So knowing what the future held who did two influential figure sat back and do nothing. IMO to do so was criminal. Worse, knowing standards were getting poorer what did Noble do? We cannot play Wigan youngsters duty of care. Hold on if standards are getting poorer surely it is easier to play more youngsters. Similarly Crusaders, standards must be getting very poor now but after replacing an Australian who blooded Welsh youngsters given little choice, Noble reverses the policy for a handful of wins to make himself look better. Surely franchising was about being able to develop youngsters without the fear of relegation? Standards getting worse / no relegation and yet Noble is not good enough to develop British players. Maybe some coaches are part of the problem.
If Noble/Irvine accept that playing standards are dropping then why ignore the simplest and fastest solution and one that will raise standards far more quicky and to new levels. A SL that reflects the number of teams that we can sustain playing standard wise which is 8 or 10 maximum. Why has Noble never called for it? Is he afraid a smaller SL = less jobs potentially for him? Why has Irvine never called for it. Is he afraid of the backlash from fans?
The Salary Cap is on part of the jigsaw but there are many as big if not bigger pieces and Noble/Irvinme are part of the problem. Still I daresay both, particularly Noble have swelled their bank balances on RL.

Re: If we want a better International Team
Excellent post and I can see your points.
But it now begs the question, why have you not raised those points against the people you are railing so strongly against, Irvine & Noble?
Or have you, and been ignored?

I know you don't tweet, but even restricted to 140 character, you could get your main point across to Irvine. Nobby's mouthpiece would start the ball rolling!
Re: If we want a better International Team
I think Tweeting / twitter is odd KW. I do not understand what the idea is re high profile people. They seem to want to tweet but rarely discuss / develop anything particularly with Joe Public. Many only seem to communicate with their peers, Joe Public being considered beneath them. I have tried reading some people's tweets and find hardly anything of worth. Far more interesting stuff in forums.
Surely Facebook or email would be better / more secure than tweeting for high profile people? I am considering killing my facebook account as I see little in that too.
Just not convinced re this social networking lark. Forums are ok. Beyond that use your email.

I would love to continue this discussion but I really need to spend some time building my farm in Farmville.
Maybe later!
