Mr Noble gets a taste of his own medicine??

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

One of the reason the Aussies always beat us i truely believe is not down to skill levels alone its mentality, in short they are bred to win, we are bred to "take part"

i think Bill Bailey summed it up quite well in his part troll tour, cant remember the exact quote but it was along the lines of

"I'm English and as such I crave disappointment... it's not the winning; it's the taking part. Or actually, it's not the taking part; it's the sense of futile despair"

We live in a country were 2nd place is not only acceptable but its rewarded as much as winning, we are too bothered about upsetting people than getting the job done, too worried about discriminating to actually pick the best for the job.

The Aussie's have no such quarms they are winners, they expect to win and if they dont win they wanna know why they hell they didnt win, having injuries or conditions that dont suit are not adequate excuses.

Winning is everything over there, and that will have a profound effect on you as an individual and how you approach life, and if your message is winning is everything then people listening will believe it too. I have heard many a story about English coaches being too nicey nicey with the players Noble springs to mind for a start. Aussies tend to disregard rank or statue and as such command respect.

Face it the english are a country or losers, we are pathetic in our attitude toward sports, we dont push people enough we just pretend that taking part is enough, its not, winning is everything, fact!.

I think I have to go against both of you here, you put me in a ring or on a pitch and I want to win! Its as simple as that, every player of a competative nature wants to win, its the coaches job to pick the team he should therefore pick players of a winning mentality!

We are going backwards at international level because we do not have a coach with the minerals to truly pick a team of winners and in form players, Morley Peacock etc etc are well past sell buy but as long as they are picked we lose, the coach is the key but Im afraid the coach we have IMO is not the right guy for the job!

Helicopter rides and bonding sessions are not what the guys need/needed they needed good hard sessions to gel on the pitch not off it!

ie a team IMO which at this present time could do some damage!

5 Atkins
6 Brown/Widdop
7 Lomax
8 Mason
9 Roby (C)

12 Ellis
13 Lockers (VC)

Subs/Possibilities
Griffin, Kirke, Graham, Hock, Wilkin, S.Moore, Harrison, Yeaman, Cudjoe, Hall, Whelam, Burrow, Gaskell, Brough.

Im sure people will try to better this, but its a good starting point IMO.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Wes i do understand what your saying and cannot disagree with it, i just think as a nation we do not instill winning in to our children enough and of course we have winners in this country and in the game of RL but for me it is all to easy to lose because the taking part is what counts, schools/colleges/universities right throughout our nation have this way of thinking which for me is not acceptable.

Dont get me wrong wes, im not saying every british person or sportsman is a loser but thats the cultre we breed here. Look at sports days at school, they dont even have winners and losers anymore.

The British mentality is not the same as the Aussies and Americans for example were winning is EVERYTHING. In the UK there is too much acceptance of being poor

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure

Top sportsmen and athletes are not!

Maybe as a country we have nellys who are used to losing and thinking its ok but you do not get to the top of contact sports with a losers mentality, you may have the odd journey man but again its up to the coach to sieve these out!

TrueBlue and Wigan Forever Ill tell you now you may as well quit because I will not give in or lose on this 1!!!!!

Wes if you read my last post I am not disagreeing with what you say and actually agree with you so it is not about winning or losing this argument, I am simply just giving another angle/reason why we as a nation do not compete with other nations at most sports on a competitive level consistently enough. I know for a fact that the reason WF and I have give is true because it is very close to my job and unfortunately it is only going to get worse and worse. Again, I do agree the reason you have given has more of an impact at top level RL though.
