Given his previous medical history, that is guaranteed!butt monkey wrote:
I seriously do hope that if the rumours about the possible signing are true then he does pass a very rigorous fitness test

Scott Leatherbarrow partnered Samm in the halves tonight, scored a hat trick and was booting the conversions. Wonder if he was staking his claim??

Not sure, don't get to many 20s games. But his name seems to have been left out of discussions on here concerning replacements for Tommy/Brett and a kicker!

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

There is. It is called the salary cap which means any club can only have 25 players who get a share of the £1.6m.cherry.pie wrote:There's no excuse for a club not to build a squad with as much depth as possible.Kiwiseddon wrote:My first reaction to hearing this rumour was 'who?'
He may be a good player but we've got a 'good' player in Sam Powell. This as a signing is not making much sense to me. Let's hope there's a hint of the George Carmont about this and he turns into a world beater.
This makes it virtually impossible to have the kind of squad depth I think you are on about where Wigan can accommodate the signing of several grafters to give the squad depth.
If he is as good as Dureau then he would not be classed as just a squad player and so I would be OK with that.We definitely needed to sign a replacement for Finch. Blake Green, while not a world beater, is still one of the best halfbacks in the league at his best. The injuries he's had this year are a bit of a worry but he's a rarity in that he's a player who has come over from the NRL and been an instant hit in his first season.
Scott Dureau didn't exactly cause much fuss when his signing was announced at Catalans but this year an awful lot of people were saying he should be our number 1 target to replace Finch. There's not much difference between Dureau and Green in my opinion, except that Green has been unlucky with injuries this year and that's prevented him from making many headlines while Dureau was catching the eye for a very strong team.
What the club can't do is let class players like Finch and Tommy leave and replace them with average pros.
Not only would that mean the team was weaker but as they would still be in the top 25 earners at the club they would limit who else the club could sign.
A clubs top 25 earners need to the best it can get. So when I see discussions like this one or the one about Woods where people say things like "he is not as good as Lima but he is OK" it does my head in. We can't keep signing grafters or average pros to replace genuine class.
If we end up having to do this because there are no good players to sign then we will have to lower our expectations as to what the team can achieve next season and beyond.
Re: blake green
Next season, Smith and Green for Finch and Tommy?????
Hope it works out but on paper at least, it looks as if we will be weaker in the halfs.

That is what is happening across the hill at present as the club has over-extended itself elsewhere!DaveO wrote:
