Matthew Russell heading to NRL

Good on him imo. We need more young players such as Burgess, Graham and Widdop playing their trade out there, he was never going to beat Tomkins to the pecking though, which is absolutely no dis-credit to Russell, no player would...barring Billy Slater or Inglis lol!

I can understand why he would go given he is behind Sam and good luck to him. He should be admired for wanting to give it a go down under at such a young age but no we don't need more players such as Burgess and Graham playing there.
They are on a different level to Russell at a different stage of their careers being established players and our competition is diluted when talent like that is lost to it.

Could this be clever future planning by Mr L, send Matty over to the NRL for a couple of seasons and then when Sam leaves (we don't want it to happen but it almost certainly will) he comes back to Wigan with NRL experience from being coached and games under his belt.

Good luck to him, hope it works out well for his future development. Not every player who heads down under comes back a better player though. Jordan Tansey, Chris Thorman and Ritchie Mathers spring to mind and all of them backs.
