Orrell RU had it all many years ago but when they tried to go professional they virtually bankrupted themselves paying overrated union players massive contracts and ex pro league players who couldnt believe there luck with the money they where paid. To be successfull in this day and age you need a rich sugar daddy who will throw money away on a team and we dont have many of them in Wigan.
Wigan RU is slightly different with a lot more teams at senior and junior level, they own there own ground which isnt bad, but they too have a prejudice against RL. If you ask them they will deny it but its there its like an unspoken secret.

The plan is to build a clubhouse, 3G pitch etc on the Upholland High School Playing Fields which are in Orrell, on the Orrell side of Sandbrook Road.

We as fans need to cut back on the rhetoric and deal with reality. Our sport, rugby league, is dead as a professional entity.

Don't get me wrong, it will stumble on for the remainder of the Sky deal, but anyone looking on objectively can see the games in terminal decline. If your a league nut, enjoy pro league while it last as we are heading for amateur status by the end of the decade.

The Challenge Cup has already been ruined, it's now a BBC schedule filler, **** the clubs and fans if it messes with the league structure, so long as the BBC can have a couple of afternoon games rather than a Fools and Horses re-run.

The Sky puppet master likewise are using the game as a schedule filler, there's rarely much investment or promotion outside the Grand Final itself, ironically a game that destroys the credibility of the previous 27 Super League games.

When you throw Sam Tomkins into the mix, the last big hope as a mainstream superstar for the sport, with his inevitable move to Union in a season or two, it's not looking good.

Increasingly Rugby Union is looking like football's Premier League launch in 1992, the product isn't at it's best, but the money and media are on board, it's only a matter of time before they attract the biggest stars on the field, coaching teams, and management to run the game.

Wigan Warriors have a stark choice to make, do we embrace Union and attempt to become a force in a sport that can match our ambitions, do wevrevert to amateur status, or worst of all, do ourselves, Saints, Leeds and Wire remain pro, create a huge gap between the haves and have nots, and potentially put our collective selves in financial strife attempting to pay "big" bucks without the necessary income.

Whatever the case, this discussion will return regularly between now and the inevitable collapse of the pro game, there will be plenty of points of view, but I'm not kidding myself thinking we have much chance of keeping what we have, nevermind expanding the game.

That chance has sailed away, we either think ahead or get taken down like other big companies such as JJB, no let any fool you into thinking the sport is untouchable, we've already seen with Bradford they were hours away from going ut of business, I'm also aware at least four other Super League clubs are on the brink of extinction, the RFL are now in fire fighting mode.

And to think, we have a World Cup on the horizon, expect the RFL to pronounce it the making of the sport. In reality we should be worried this uneeded financial burden doesn't bankrupt the whole sport.

Sorry for such a doom laden first post, but I'm sick to the back teeth of this sport sleep walking towards disaster, it's time we listened to people like Bilko who are considering walking away. I just hope the club I've supported for all these years doesn't insult my intelligence by pushing more hyped up bull to my inbx telling me how this or that league game in unmissable, when in reality it's meaningless.

IL, Wigan Warriors and co, take the initiative or YOU are just as much to blame for the destruction of this sport as the RFL.

I suspect many supporters of Wigan and indeed other club's will not be renewing their season tickets after again spending a great of money over a period of nine months or so to watch their team win as many matches as they can in the league and then find at the end of the season the team in fifth position and eight points behind the top team, yet again win the title and win it with the help of match officials from the same county.

I wonder how many of you noticed that many of the seats adjacent to where the RFL officials were sat were covered up to prevent ordinary supporters being near them and making comments at them.

The rival code has at least the sense NOT to have a farcical top eight play off like we have at the present time and which is driving supporters away from the game.

Under the present RFL management, the game is now a laughing stock in the eyes of other sports.

that's actually for the school and was schools idea, but they are trying to sell the whole lot, that will go for housing development if it does sell and not Orrell RU......anyway bugger all will happen if i get my way as i live backing onto those fields
