A lot of names in the Italian team , surprised no one has really talked about them as a tough side to beat given their roster.

If the England coach thought he could win while constantly changing your spine then no wonder it turned into a banana skin game.

That result over Samoa begs the Question about selection.
Pretty much my thoughts but also add in that macbanana is a poor coach then it's not looking good.

I spoke to someone in the Wigan coaching set up some time ago and he was shocked at the lack of structures and tactics put forward by the England coaching set up.

Come the revolution maybe the new RFL will appoint a decent coach for our national side - even better bring back Great Britain.

Lets be honest this is an awful result. Bar a couple of names you would struggle to recognise anybody and you feel GB Academy let alone the Knights should have beaten them. So for 'England's best', Jesus!!!

That GBR Jumper is a rugby league Icon. well I don't have to tell you people that , but down here it worries me that so many things that made the sport have been meddled with , Kids in NZ wouldn't recognise the GBR colours these days and that's kids from Rugby League Families.

Ok for mine as an outsider I see the England team as a largely unkown quantity , you expect high quality , but are not sure what the reality will be.

The GBR era I knew most of the players , and some of them were favorites ( Edwards,Farrell,Hanley Offiah Gill, Ward , PLatt Betts in my era were household names here , admired).

The Kiwis have had their ups and downs but winning the odd final here and there has kept them credible.

So Important that one of our countries defeats Australia and preferably the host nation of the Tournament holds up the Silver ware for the good of the game ( I'll get over the tears pretty quickly ).

I meant what I said in an Earlier post , If the Cook Islands beat NZ and these upsets went on to produce tight contests , it would be the best / most talked about Rugby League Tournament ever held.
Interest in the game would follow.
Bringing back Icons like GBR would seem a sensible place to start before people old enough to know what it represents have all gone.

IMO this reminded me of the Catalan game, one side wanted to win and the other going through the motions with their eye on the next game

Today ( 3am here ) the Cook Islands have the chance to play the next giant killer.

Great for the game if they catch NZ off guard.
You should be happy now given NZ won 50 nil!!

Be silly to complain :D

Good first hit out. The Cook Islands played well in patches. Massive size miss match in the middle of the park stopped it being a contest.
Not as structured as you would like from the Kiwis.

Yes, I have been real for over forty years, and I judge a player on how good he is, irrespective of who he plays for.

Too many call him, just because he plays for the Whino's, but would they do so if he had signed for Wigan.

I think not!

Sam - Massive Amount Needs Fixing

England must dust themselves down and pick themselves up ahead of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup which gets underway this weekend on Saturday in Cardiff against Australia.

England were defeated by Italy 14-15 in their warm up clash at Salford and Warriors Full Back Sam Tomkins was the first to admit the performance was simply not good enough,

"It's a very disappointing day for us. We know that's not good enough and we've got to improve drastically before next Saturday.

"We know the game in the big picture doesn't mean anything but it's not the way we wanted to start our campaign this year and we've got a great opportunity to bounce back next week."

England went into the game on the back of a two-week training camp in South Africa and Tomkins believes that build-up will stand them in good stead as they look to bounce back.

"We felt like we were ready for the game," he said. "We prepared well in South Africa and that will go a long way in this tournament because it's not just to get us a quick fix from one game. We will build into this."

England fought back after conceding two early tries and Tomkins touched down twice to edge them into a 14-12 half-time lead, only for the Azzurri to level the scores with a 70th-minute penalty and snatch a famous victory with Josh Mantellato's drop goal two minutes from the end,

The game was witnessed by Australia coach Tim Sheens who Tomkins admits must be rubbing his hands with glee.

"They'll think they'll have an easy week won't they?" he said. "If that's how they're thinking, that's fine.

"They're the best in the world and we're under no illusions how tough next week will be. A massive amount needs fixing up.

"We're not daft. There are some smart blokes in there and we know we didn't perform as we planned to.

"We've put a bit more pressure on ourselves and we'll see how we go next week."
