Atherton 1000+ homes and has migrants... (to which I shall be shortly be a part of, well, howe bridge anyway)

Galleries has been a shocker for a decade even before the Grand Arcade. I'm glad that money has been pumped into it, the less retail the better as town centres stores take far less do$h than out of town shops, anyway. Apart from a giant adult's playground I think cinema's, restaurants etc will encourage a good bit of nightlife in wigan

As I've said before, Wigan lost its soul the day digging began on the Market Square cobbles to begin work on what would become Marketgate and The Galleries.

Then we lost Lowes, another historic landmark who's doorway had been the 'first date meeting place' of courting couples for decades.

The demolition of the Little Arcade saw the end of the Top and Bottom Legs ending the age old speculation as to whether an underground tunnel existed between the two. And we also lost the Commercial, who's mahogany panelled bar was a joy to behold.

I'm just thankful for my memories of a town which was once a grand old lady as opposed to the thirty bob hooker it has become today.

Apologies to anyone who prefers thirty bob hookers!

What make some in Standish think they are any different than other parts of Wigan or indeed the country?

Happening all over the place to accommodate the population increase due to unlimited immigration which is now out of hand!

Show me which other parts of Wigan are getting 1000+ homes and have expanded on such a grand scale for the last 20 years. I am fairly sure none! Standish being non Labour AND property values being higher than other parts of Wigan are two key factors. Not sure immigration is a huge factor in Standish.
It sure is in the increasing number of takeaways in Standish.

Does nobody cook?

Standish is also suitable as they could learn about petty snobbery!

I'm not petty. I take my snobbishness very seriously!

Back on the subject of the Galleries, the council don't own them. This development has nowt to do with them and will not involve council tax payers money. It's a private venture folks.
