Suarez didn't write the rules, he was just making use of them. And before you ask, I can't stand the man!cpwigan wrote:Lawro and Hansen seem to have discovered a new rule book since Suarez started playing for Liverpool. To be honest BY AND LARGE the commentators today are a joke with their acceptance of diving when they should be condemning it.Kittwazzer wrote:Collymore said that the contact 'wasn't enough to knock down a toddler'. I think it was Mark Lawrenson in his column who claimed that force of contact is irrelevant as the rules clearly state that upon any contact at all, the player is 'entitled to go down'!cpwigan wrote:Far from it KW
Stan Collymore called it right and we can all see what happens when you tell the truth.
Suarez has incredible balance when he wants to use it and he can ride challenge after challenge BUT in the box or in his free kick range (He cheated for that late in the game) a feather duster could knock him over.
Cheating needs to be driver from British football. At the present time every clubs has 2 or 3 divers/cheats.

Your right KW but we did once have a very negative reaction to cheating & diving BUT now its seems the 'experts' want us to embrace and master it.
I personally hate it. Man Utd are my team but I despair at the cheating / diving by at least 2 of our forwards.

Is that the case though? Players can still be penalised if they are considered to have deliberately taken a dive. Except inside the box when the slightest contact makes an unnecessary dive legal.cpwigan wrote:Your right KW but we did once have a very negative reaction to cheating & diving BUT now its seems the 'experts' want us to embrace and master it.
And we think our refs have tough calls to make!

So now we know the reason why you singled out Suarez and yes, one or two at United are as bad, if not worse.cpwigan wrote:Your right KW but we did once have a very negative reaction to cheating & diving BUT now its seems the 'experts' want us to embrace and master it.

But you are right about cheating as it is now a case of win at all costs with the match day bonus's involved. Even to wrestling with each other in the box when a corner or free kick has been awarded.
The game is no longer the game it used to be, but it now seems to suit the people who are daft enough to pay the silly season ticket and match day prices to watch it.

There is almost as much contact, in a supposedly contactless sport, than our game :exc: :exc:
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I singled out Suarez because it was the most recent controversy I watched and was in the news following the attacks on Stan Collymore. I also commented on Anelka at WBA, I daresay I have an agenda there tooWhelley Warrior wrote:So now we know the reason why you singled out Suarez and yes, one or two at United are as bad, if not worse.cpwigan wrote:Your right KW but we did once have a very negative reaction to cheating & diving BUT now its seems the 'experts' want us to embrace and master it.

I am just a sports mad person who simply has opinions on all and sundry. I have never been biased on origin, colour of skin, club they play for etc.
I regularly praised Graham and Roby at Saints. I grew up in the 70s when Liverpool were incredibly dominant; I praise the best RL players in the world despite most of them being Australian!; My childhood football hero was Kevin Keegan. I followed Man Utd because my father did but they were hopeless for much of my childhood. As a sports anorak though I realised that Duncan Edwards was the greatest footballer the world has seen and that GB RL were actually great between 1958-1962 and before.

Officiating in all contact sports is incredibly difficult. I do think the balance as shifted i football whereby referees are now afraid to take action against diving / cheating whereby if they do so managers / media pundits attack them and whip up a frenzy.Kittwazzer wrote:Is that the case though? Every tackle / challenge has contact and as Josie states it has become crazy with players of exceptional balance diving the moment they feel the slightest touch, a touch that they sometimes engineer by running into an opponent.
The wierd aspect KW is if we take the 'new expert rule' that you outline, EVERY corner, free kick where the players are in the box SHOULD = PENALTY with the 'hugging' that goes on between defenders and attackers. IT IS IGNORED!
