The pitch at Orrell needs to be as good as it can be given it is where our most expensive investment / resource train on. It does not need using for more games than it currently already is.
There are better equipped / more centrally located amateur grounds than Orrell. For example St Pats / Rose Bridge.
You really are flogging a dead horse. If the interest had been there I am sure it would have been included / kept when they redesigned the clubhouse at Orrell.

Re: Community Stadium Re-named
It would cost a fortune to have proper bar or catering facilities and for the amount of use they would get there would be very little return. Even on match day with the crowds the reserves get they would be lucky to break even.
Re: Community Stadium Re-named
He gave that up to turn full time pro. When Wigan went full time he committed to it by giving up the business.cpwigan wrote:He did have an antiques business when he finished playing.
It was him doing this and then getting spear tackled thus ending his career that helped frame my view that we pay the players far too little for what they do.
I have no idea if he got back into it later but I am certain he gave it all up for the Rugby so he could be a full time player.
I was gutted when he was injured because he looked like he was going to be a top player for a long time.
Re: Community Stadium Re-named
He didn't get spear tackled Dave. It was a weird and controversial one where Haragon IIRC basically karate chopped the back of his neck as he feel close to the ground near horizontal in a tackle.
Re: Community Stadium Re-named
Whatever it was it ended his career and as I said I am certain he had given up the Antiques business so he could be a full time player with Wigan. That was the deal at the time. Any semi-pro players who wanted to carry on had to go full time.cpwigan wrote:He didn't get spear tackled Dave. So the home and visiting Academy teams and supporters don't deserve better match refreshment facilities like they get when they go to other clubs where they play at their proper stadiums or like Leeds, at amateur clubs like Stanningley where is a proper club house.cpwigan wrote:The pitch at Orrell needs to be as good as it can be given it is where our most expensive investment / resource train on. And for the record, the club house at Orrell was rebuilt during the time that Mr Wigan owned it and therefore hardly surprising that there are no proper facilities in regard to refreshments.
Re: Community Stadium Re-named
You are correct the clubhouse was rebuilt under Whelan. Unfortunately you are wrong, it was a social clubhouse with a bar etc or certainly drink facilities. IL/Wigan RIGHTLY turned it into a training facility.

I have never said anything about any club house not being turned into the gym facility which was right thing to do as you say. Only that better refreshment facilities should also have been considered for both players and supporters.cpwigan wrote:You are correct the clubhouse was rebuilt under Whelan. A outside catering van made be sufficient for some, but hardly good enough for a top class club like Wigan.
Now, you buy a can and you never know, you might actually enjoy the contents, be it alcoholic or otherwise!

And it would appear that the Stadium is indeed being used for the local schools finals, and rightly so!
