Hmm good use of the English language Gimble,Rocky has not been outstanding is because he,s been playing out of position in my opinion. When was the last time he played at 7? Answer non yet we persever with Smith who at best is an average halfback with a poor kicking game.He has however been hooking in his previous clubs.
I may be having a senior moment here but IIRC we have seen Rocky at halfback for the first team in two games for a limited spell this year, a friendly (Leigh I think)and one game where everyone else was sick/ injured making Wane start with him and he had blinders until Wane moved him to fb or replaced him.

Now someone tell me I must have dreamt it.
In official games (not friendly fixtures) do you know how many opportunities as a halfback Rocky has been given? conversely how many SAM pOWELL HAS BEEN GIVEN?

I myself only remember him playing at 6 in the Huddersfield home game.if my memory is correct,I think he was drafted in at the last minute for George, who was injured in the warm up.

That is exactly the point I was trying to make. Rocky has only had one go at 6 in SL and showed up very well in a scratchy team performance, we won and he kicked a couple of goals IIRC. The other time as I said was against Leigh and he was running the game until he was switched and we all know what happened then. He has had some 'mares at FB but he has shown his class for me in the limited time he has had at halfback.
I am not saying he should walk into the first team and replace either Matty or George at the moment, but IMO Waney needs to lose this idea of FB or nothing and give him equal chances as Sam as a bench player to cover the halves and to gain some game time. Then we all (including the coaches)will see if he has what it takes. Rocky into halves with Matty/ George moving to 9 is not a lot of disruption to the team.
How anyone can say he is over or underrated at this time is beyond me as he has not had much time to show what he can / can't do at HB. Comparing him to a young Giz is pointless as Giz was able to do a job at FB in an outstanding side that were head and shoulders above the competition.

Rocky's confidence must be taking a huge knock struggling at FB, why not try him at Prop :with:

LOL I'm not saying he's that good, I'm saying we don't know but the lad should get a chance to show what he's got in his natural position before he is condemned or sanctified.
I would have thought I made that obvious with my last sarcastic sentence. :D

So can Smith, allowing Rocky to be given the chance to play at 6 and George at 7.
Many are willing to allow one of our prized assets to leave and return to cause havoc.
Amazes me that Smith our most experienced half needs to move to keep some wet dream of the dream duo alive. Smith and Williams are becoming a very good SUPER LEAGUE partnership. So we risk it on a player who added very little to our attack never mind his poor defending.

If been a good prospect was all it needed Shaun Ainscough would be starting for the Souths side by now. Academy level is not a a barometer of how great your career is going to be.

Williams has really developed and this is by playing with experience and you want Wane to risk it on a player who is not proven anything in SL.

Got to ask the question are people really blinded by if they are Wigan Youth they are an Immortal before even putting on the shirt.
Hell of a tackle by Smith for Hudds first try?

Makes a good speed bump PM :D

I think people sometimes miss the point as proven by George. If you show faith in exceptionally talented young players they very often / nearly always give you far more than the option of remaining faithful to older far less talented player that will do a job but nothing more.

I suggest people look at Rocky's Academy Record(as good as Sam T's), the then season on season lack of opportunities season after season under Wane when Powell has been give regular opportunities including many in preferred positions. Powell at academy was less than stellar too! Matty Smith? Solid but is he a legendary Wigan halfback? ? Even today and recently George is out shining Matty!

What is the coach afraid of? what are some fans afraid of?

If Hampshire was to be let go by Wigan there would be 11 SL clubs plus a few NRL teams too wanting him.

As solid as Matty Smith is he doesn't scare opposition defences that much.

Rocky and Williams at 6 and 7 with Smith as bench hooker if McIlorum can't do 80 is the way I'd go if I was Wigan coach.

I'd move Logan Tomkins and Powell on as they're squad fodder.

If Hampshire was available I'd collect him myself if Saints were interested.
