More inclined to think its because of cost, especially with promotional trips to London now on the agenda!

It worked in 2013 for the double, Leeds have done it for the last two years and are going again this year. Why do you think the majority elite athletes use warm weather training camps?

Some on this board probably think they only do it because they're soft

Maybe Wigan have decided that there is no benefit to the warm weather training and have decided it would be better to train in the UK and make take a long haul flight. That said, I don't recall the warm weather training doing us any harm in 2013.

I think there are benifits to warm weather camps and benifits to taking the whole squad away most notably the "bonding" part of it. In terms of getting you ready for a season though i dont think they serve any purpose, i think if you want to hit the ground running you should train in the conditions you play in

I think the issue with warm weather camps (especially in our sport with not a lot of money) that you'd want to let the lads have time to see the sights and lap up the sun etc, but you are trying to balance that with hard training which is nigh impossible. No matter how much they protest these camps are hard work we know its up to 50% a holiday, which is fine for the bonding side but call a spade a spade and dont try and dress it up as an intense training camp.

They would be far better served IMO running a team "holiday" to tenerife or somewhere for a few days letting the lads bond and have a laugh then bring them back home and start the real hard work

My only niggle is that the official season should start later on the first weekend of March and end on the last weekend of October with the Grand Final.

Don't think anyone has had a go about cost cutting. Been offered as a possible reason but no criticism has been offered.
