I've said before I would have a slightly poorer player who was a 85% kicker in the team over a better playing <80%

Even in League I think place kicking is still incredibly valuable. Arguably, Sinfield win Leeds umpteen games through place kicking as opposed to skill with ball in hand. I still think you can discover/ coach kickers. Frano proved that. Owen Farrell proves that as does Stephen Myler. The great cycling guy talks about 1% ers, well at its worst; place kicking is a 33% er, probably more!

Pat Richards was fairly poor at the start.

I think it gives you a lot of confidence when you know someone is going to convert plus it gives you the option of kicking for penalties in tighter matches

I agree and as Wigan_forever1985 said I'd go for the 85% kicker in the team over a better playing

I agree Josie. He will make the difference.

Especially seeing as he is having the pie experience round at Shaun's house! :D

Be nice to see him and he'll get a great reception but there are a few more miles on the clock since he left us. May not see the same Pat on the pitch as we remember.
Could come back to haunt us though.

Yes he did. It also shows a coach will compromise to have a good kicker in his side. Frano had no chance getting into the side as a half back when he arrived here but his goal kicking got him a spot on the wing.
True. Ironic as he couldn't get into the NZ RU team because of Grant Fox (Imo Frano was a better kicker and player but their loss certainly was our gain).

Logically a goal is worth 50% of a try. Good goalkickers are worth their weight in gold imo. Especially thesedays with the "kick to the corner" being so popular......
