If Bateman had undergone the op any sooner he would have missed the World Cup Final.markill wrote:Bateman and O'Loughlin, as far as I know, have injuries from the world cup.Firestarter wrote:so the season hasnt even started and we got 5 players out?luckily they are only niggles, supposedly
Wells and Burgess, as far as I know, picked up injuries in the Leigh game.
Manfredi has his long standing knee injury that was from August last year (and July the year before).
I can't see that the Wells, Burgess or O'Loughlin injuries can really be the subject of much criticism to the club (what's the alternative with Lockers, to let him go? He's had calf problems for ages and both England and Wigan medical staff and presumably outside specialists haven't fixed it).
The timing of Bateman's op, one that rules him out of round 1, is curious and disappointing if it's something we could have made sure he had sooner. Does anyone know more about the circumstances around that?
Maybe with Manfredi, he came back too soon or something, so that can be something our club need to be questioned over if that's the case.

Don't you mean for the games in Oz? I wonder if the desire to put a full squad out for the Hull game despite it being for the same number of league points as a win at Salford would get us has affected the selection for Friday?shaunedwardsfanclub wrote: On the other hand Waney might be wrapping him in cotton wool and bringing him out for the bigger games.

I am not sure what was particularly controversial about my argument. We demonstrably had massive injury problems in each of the last 3 seasons. They comprise 3 elements - our players are very susceptible to joint injuries. There is specific training and prep which top football teams do to minimise these sorts of injury. We cannot get people fit once they are injured (though they love their gym membership). Which again can be sorted by professional medics. And, in consecutive years with Bateman he as scheduled ops at a time to suit him rather than the club - last year conveniently allowing him to play NRL opposition and then disappear from view, this time seemingly allowing him to play NRL opposition. Astonishingly, with all the exposure we are giving him, he will soon jump ship to the NRL.
Last year, we had the worst run in over a century, blamed constantly on injuries. We are 5 down again even before we start. This isn't an opinion, these are demonstrable facts. By the time they get back from Oz, at the traditional 2 a game drop out rate, we will be watching (the potentally excellent) Josh Woods and (the eager) Navarette leading the team around.

I did wonder whether I missed the announcement that the Hull game was worth extra points?
Re: 19-Man Squad: Vs Salford
Well I hope he would have but there is a lot of money and publicity resting on the trip to Oz. I would not be surprised that under normal circumstances where a player might be expected to play with a knock with an injection (not that I think that is a good idea but recognise it happens) that has not occured. I am think of Lockers mainly who does seem to be wrapped in cotton wool these days.No straw damn us wrote:If he could have put a full squad out v Salford he would have done.DaveO wrote:Don't you mean for the games in Oz? The listed squad for Salford should be good enough.

I'll tell you what:
You say we could well lose our first 3 games. Do you really believe that? Is it a "demonstrably" true?
How about £50 says we won't? No back-tracking, it's "put up or shut up" time.
