I think he will do OK.

Here is a comment from a recent match report from the Sydney Moring Herald and also a coment from his soon to be ex-coach:

"The try scored by replacement Palea'aesina in the 37th minute was frightening. The 110-kilogram prop took the ball straight from a tap and charged at a clutch of defenders, trampling through them.

The 23-year-old is off contract and has been linked with British Super League club Wigan for next season, but coach Kemp said: "Iafeta knows what I think about him … fingers are crossed that he wants to stay."

Hmm he's nicknamed Mr Effective which can only be good, plus we can call him "feca" instead of Iafeta Paleaaesina.
I hope he does what they are all predicting he will and becomes one of the great front rowers. Glad to see hes only 23, i didnt know that; plus its one over on the saints who were interested in him. Hope he does the job. Only thing i'm not liking is the LUCRATIVE part of his deal, hope we're not filling up the salary cap with just a couple of players again, you'd think mo would learn what happens when you do that.

Iafeta Palea'asina said,

"It's a great thrill to be joining Wigan and my good friend Jerry Seuseu. I had several offers but Wigan is still the biggest name down here and it will be a thrill to play for them."

Does this mean "good old" jerry will be staying with us :(

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this MrsC. I'm still not convinced that there's any problem with paying a couple of players as much as we were paying Faz and Rads. The salary cap isn't THAT restrictive, and apparently our problem has been more that we've not had sufficient income to be able to spend the whole £1.8m permitted under the cap. Assuming we can now spend all the dosh, two players earning £200k each (and Faz wasn't on as much as that on his original contract) still leaves £1.4m, take £100k off for 5 players outside 20/20 leaves £1.3m, averaging out £72k for the other 18 players, some of whom will be more than this and some who will be less. No problem that I can see, £72k isn't too bad for anyone mid-20's even if they have only got a few years to bring in the money.

If we want good players we need to pay for them, there's no point us spending our £1.8m on £20k players, although a squad of 90 might help with our injury problems!

This player looks a good one, and I'm glad that we're splashing the cash instead of recruiting an average team of Bothams and McDonalds.

Every club will have 2 or 3 players on very big contracts, its the way it is, you cant get quality without paying for it, weve seen this year that we havnt signed genuine quality and we have let genuine quality leave, look where it left us, unfortunatly you have to pay the price in some instances to get what you need, we needed a first class prop, and it looks like weve got one. Look at saints, Lyon will be on a high salary, but look what he does for the club.

Well since we have signed Fletcher, Richards and now this guy we seem to be signing more quality players than just one big name.

That said, Fraggle and ChrisA are right you do need to splash out on a couple of really top class players.

People keep going on about Rads and Faz's salary but I just don't think it has ever been the issue some make out. We should easily accomodate the likes of those two under the salary cap and be able to sign the three I mentioned above. They are a notch down from Rads and Faz on the wages stakes I reckon with figures of £125K a year being mentioned for Fletcher and Richards.

I would expect something similar to be offered for Feca (the new props other nickname/first name abbreviation thank goodness) which when converted to NZ dollars comes out at NZ $325K.

I bet that buys you quite a bit in NZ.

I agree that we need quality and to get quality we need to pay for it and i'd rather see quality than more seuseu's. The money probably isnt as big as i'm thinking it is, but it'll be a lot to the aussies. I'm just worried about running into more problems like this season, "we cant recruit anybody" maurice said, but we get botham and mcdonald. It makes you wonder if mo gets his way and the salary cap is reviewed what difference it'll make to wigan because all that seems to happen is we're fed with crap about the salary cap and having to use youngsters excessively when no other team really seems to suffer. The "salary cap" has been blamed for our lack of recruiting mid season at least the past 2/3 years.
It just annoys me when maurice moans and says we cant do anything about signings because of the restrictions. Look at bradford and Leeds it obviously isnt the salary cap thats restricting, more than likely his limited brain capacity. But when you look at our squad its a small squad each season, patched up with youngsters who get thrown in at the deep end and cant cope.

Presumably this new signing plus Fletcher and Richards is dependent on Wigan staying in SuperLeague 11.
We will know more after the match against Wakey on July 23rd.
As MrsC says though I have wondered why only Wigan have not been able to make big overseas signings mid season when Leeds/Bull(regularly)/Stains can.
I cannot believe Fraggle either when he says Wigan do not earn enough to spend the full £1.8m, I am sure that only the Rhinoes pull in more money than us.

I did say this is what I'd heard, not that it's the truth. To be honest I can't believe it either but someone (can't remember if it's on here or somewhere else) has made this claim on a few occasions.

I was under the impression that if we needed to boost the income that Mr Whelan would be able to pull a JJB Sports cheque out of his left pocket to pay the club in his right pocket. But if it's all being done properly, maybe it is true. Merchandise goes to JJB Sports, not to Wigan RL. Tickets go to Wigan Football Club (as opposed to the Latics whose ticket money goes to the Latics - something I noticed when buying tickets for Leeds a couple of weeks ago), whatever Wigan Football Club is - is it the rugby team or yet another Whelan organisation? The concessionaires are separate from the club and probably pay the stadium rather than us. At other clubs much, if not all, of such money would remain within the club directly but that doesn't seem to be the case at Wigan.

Fraggle, but we still have £7.2million left over from the sale of central Park and at 5% in any decent account that equates to £360k/annum as well

Aye, but as far as I can remember the rule with the salary cap is that's it's not more than 50% of income, meaning we've got to have income of £3.6m to be able to spend the lot. As you say, it's still a bit unbelievable but that's what's been posted on one of these boards (either here, RLFAns or the WiganRLFans forum - old age means I can't remember which one it was, sorry :-( )
