I don't think he's had an ideal journey and introduction into the team many reasons as mentioned. I'm pretty sure the staff now will give him the right pathway and if he's good enough he will take it. Sometimes timing is as important in sport as anything else I'm more than happy to see how he goes Tommy won't play all the games I'm sure and your only a couple of injuries away from being first choice as last year showed. Couple of months playing behind a pack going forward and a more structured and less one dimensional half pairing and let's see how he goes.

Here we go…

Let’s start jumping on a 22 year olds back who has just come off the back of season where’s he tried to carry a poor team which will have battered his confidence and not forgetting a shoulder injury which required major surgery.

With a new coaching structure and a bigger pack how about we give the lad a chance before we start writing him off?

I'm confident that Harry can progress this season. Although it's still early days, the coaching setup seems to be much more effective and the whole feeling at the club is more positive. I'm sure that Harry's development was stalled by injury and Lammy's methods last season. 22 is still young for a half back, a position where experience counts far more than most others. I don't think that the coaches expect him to be the main playmaker at this point so let's give the lad all our support and see where he is at the end of the season.

Two very reflective and accurate posts just above (sorry without all the quotations !) as mentioned in this thread.
He was a leading part in giving the Aussie "schoolboys" a test series beating whilst the last 2 Covid years have not been a conducive platform for any players rapid improvement, coupled with the questionable coaching regime behind him at the time.
Lets see what this season brings.

I'm not writing him off, and the points are well made that for a variety of reasons, he hasn't had the best last couple of years. But I agree it s a make-or-break season for him. I too worry that he hasn't 'kicked on', and we saw too many unforced errors last season. With a new coaching regime at the club, this is a chance for Harry to stake a claim to a regular spot and bring that early promise so many have talked about to fruition.

It matters not what the experts in the stand think, the only opinion that counts is Matt Peet. I am willing to nail my colours to the mast, Smith will succeed at Wigan.

Wow, I didn't expect this. Is Harry Smith going to replace Sam Powell as the next target man, he made one poor kick but other than that I think he did okay in both games. He nailed loads of money Williams time and time again, why do we look for someone to bear the brunt of negativity when we should be giving praise to those who do well and encourage those who are a little off their game.
He played every game in a crap team last year which must have stunted his growth as a player, give him a break.
The butt of a lot of insults Thornley & Powell both had strong games last night so lets support them shall we. I now feel optimistic that we will see decent rugby this season, I can't wait, and look forward to getting showered by Josie's confetti as the team enters the field. Come on the pies.
