We haven’t got a six in the club.fozzieskem wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 7:32 pmTo me French free scoring runs are missed this season,yes Miski is a decent winger again though it's Wigan signing a player when at the time the side was pretty well off in that area rather than looking at where the side was weakest but he's here now for at least another year so it'll be interesting to see how he goes.DaveO wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:53 pmBased on what evidence Mike? That neither of them look remotely like a no 6? Because they don’t in my opinion. If we are honest they are both full excellent backs but neither look like a 6.
Miski has done a great job and has proved me wrong as to how good a winger he is but I think we’d be better with French on the wing and a proper no 6. Whether that 6 is Cust is debatable but that isn’t the point.
Of course Miski getting the option taken up doesn’t automatically mean he’s first choice on the wing but from what I have seen trying to fit him, French & Field into the side doesn’t work compared to when we had Cust playing well at stand off and French on the wing and Field at full back.
As for French and Field you're bang on they simply aren't a 6 in any way shape or form but we shall see

I might be in a minority of one, but:
(a) Bevan is the best full back we have and should play there;
(b) Jai is not a 6 and we need one;
Therefore, and also based on this season's form, his injury record, and his defensive limitations, as well as the effects on Harry Smith plus salary cap considerations, I would let Jai go.

Jai's got his weaknesses but for me, his strengths far outweigh them.
Coaching staff will have to solve the problem.

Field is better in defence at full back and almost as good in attack than Bevan.morley pie eater wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 1:50 pm I might be in a minority of one, but:

Also looking at the players builds I'd imagine French is much more likely to get a run at the NRL again (Field looks like a runner and not a RL player.
It's also harsh to judge either of them in the halves at the moment. They have played a couple of matches moving around in the game as well.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Put it this way: if we were starting with a blank sheet of paper and building a team, on the evidence we have I wouldn't sign both of them, and Bevan would win hands down in a choice between the two of them. Apart from considerations of ability to play FB or wing at the highest level, and cover at 6 and hold his own, have a attitude and the commitment he shows must be taken into consideration.
None of this is being negative about Jai - he is a joy to watch, particularly on attack, and I'd have him at 1 above pretty much anyone else.

I usually agree 100% with pretty much whatever you say Morley, but under the salary cap we are lucky to have such riches in the backs, and it is up to the coaching team to sort the puzzle out to everyone's benefit. Cue NickyKiss to point out how this worked perfectly for an hour or so at Leigh...

Still reckon it's a problem opposition coaches wouldn't mind having.

Exactly - Wasn’t a problem last year with Field at fullback and French finishing top scorer on the wing.

I still think this is the best way but im sure there will be plenty swapping ahead, what with abbas form and injuries etcnathan_rugby wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 6:55 amExactly - Wasn’t a problem last year with Field at fullback and French finishing top scorer on the wing.

Counterpoint - any competent winger could finish many of those tries. French's talent is wasted by only being on the end of moves.nathan_rugby wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 6:55 amExactly - Wasn’t a problem last year with Field at fullback and French finishing top scorer on the wing.
