Surely the subject above can't be right. A tackle " above the armpit " ? That 's absurd it suggests that a once legal shoulder charge would be illegal!? Mandatory skullcaps wouldn't change anything. Would it? What's wrong with a generalised rule that Any tackle adjudged to be dangerous by a Ref to be illegal subject to sppeal

Shoulder charges have been illegal for ages.

To see how confusing the legal and proposed illegal tackles are, watch the RFL video which shows examples.
The last "illegal" tackle example is a complete joke.
If this is illegal, the future is bleak.

I stand corrected. I thought that two opposing players running parallel could shoulder charge when trying to retrieve a loose ball

This video is a demonstration of this ridiculous adjustment, every tackle was fine, and the scripted dialogue was equally ridiculous, or charitably presumptuous.

(there was however direct contact with the head from one of the women's games in the clip that nothing was mentioned, which further increases the absurdity)

You can do that, but you can't shoulder charge a player with the ball in an attempt to tackle them. It's been illegal for a good few years for the same reason as these changes - too high risk of injury. You have to make an attempt to wrap your arms around the player otherwise it's a pen and probably a sin bin.

We'll get used to all this, it will just take a period of adjustment.

Latest player to post his objection to the implementation of the below armpit tackle, is Jackson Hastings, he like me says that it might as well be touch rugby, if they go ahead with the changes.
