In general, Dave, I understand your point. But strangely enough, my suggestion is that the opposite could true in this case.

A player like Harry Smith controls a game. For Farrimond to come in alongside Smithy is asking him to play second fiddle, so he can't play his normal game. How does that help him, and what does it tell us (or more importantly, the coaching staff) about his potential as a game manager?

The rest of the team is strong enough to beat London. The lad is being given a chance by Matty Peet. We should give home a chance too.

PS. Judging by the scoreboard, it looks like he's doing awreet!
He's having a good game. Excellent goal kicking as well. Including two touchline conversions, one from either side.

Give London their due, they have tried throwing it about and almost scored but Wigan are too powerful for them down the middle.
Having got back and watched the highlights I don’t see why it would not be a plan to play both Smtih and Farrimond if French is to remain FB while Field is out.

Farrimond has pace which Smith doesn’t and Farrimond showed some great support play. Smith can carry on organising and doing the in-field kicking but if Peet tells Farrimond to follow the man with the ball he will scare defences. His support play tonight reminded me of a certain Shaun Edwards.
Agreed, Dave. I was saying that to give Farrimond this game without Smith was a good move for his development/confidence, and to show what he can do. I didn't mean to suggest that we should never play the two of them together.

Good solid 2 points. Always going to be a little disjointed with changes especially your main ball players. It's great to see so many young lads with so much potential. Farimond, Jnr, Eckersley, Hill, O'Niel are all so young but are stacking game time and more importantly big game experience up at such a young age. It's easy to forget Harvard and Byrne are also still young for props and I would bracket Smith and Walters with them as still on the early side career wise.
What a home debut , yes it was against a London team that have struggled this season but that's pretty impressive start by Jack Farimond. Obviously your mind goes back to Sam Tomkins
5 try debut but reading posts and watching his performance it had touches of several past players.
He's learned pretty quickly and mentioned in interview that he didn't force the ball not easy for a young half trying to impress but something I have seen Harry Smith mention so much early in his career. His first try showed genuine guile, balance and turn of pace ,a little Sam T cameo in there. His backing up for his second try and then off the Marshall break was Edwards like as mentioned and that's some good company to be compared to as a young half. The top of the highlight was after his second break how he put Wardle in so easily and to be honest at that point I expected nothing less "quality". When you then add 6 from 6 with the boot and a try saving contribution over the line that's something quite special on home debut. Obviously early days but all the wraps on the lad seem spot on.
It does throw a curve into the selection while Jai is out but a very healthy one. You also imagine going forward we now have succession and cover.
Nice to be back at home my bank account appreciated it greatly..

We started very well in the game but got sloppy in the last 20. I had hoped we'd match the saints points difference after tth first 20 but it was good to see them practice their scramble defence and keep it to 0.

Overall not too bad.

I agree but that is down to us chopping and changing our attacking combinations. Smith and French are our best halfbacks and I see no reason to change that.

What was the attendance?

I often find it hard to find attendances for other matches. I've tried Super League website but maybe I'm not looking in the right place.
Not quite as sharp as I used to be! Olde Age creeping in I'm afraid! ;)

Thanks
