I had a £160 full length waterproof jacket & I can confirm it was totally waterproof.
I had the same problem with gloves, but I had my gloved hands in my pockets. The rain ran down the sleeves filled the gloves & the pockets! Saturated is an understatement that night!
This OP keeps bringing back memories of different games, & that’s saying something! I can’t remember last week at times never mind games from years ago.
I remember being at Bradford & for some reason we were stood in the side stand.
There was a gang of us used to go to games together young men & women, in one the guys transit van, all we needed was a cushion to sit on in the back.
Any road up, think it was the first time I saw a player sent off at half time going down the tunnel just below us.
The player was Ellery Hanley & the ref was John Holdsworth
Wasn't that Robin Whitfield? And Ellery reputedly told him he'd be refereeing in the second division the following week - and he was..?
You’re right, sorry, told you my memory was bad!

When I was actually writing it I kept asking myself if Houldsworth was correct.
At that time they were my favourite two referees cos they stood no nonsense from any player
No worries my memory is bad as well! Just still remember the confusion when the teams came out for the second half and Hanley wasn't there. Still scored about 30 points and only lost narrowly as I recall.

1984 and 1985 trips to Wembley on the special trains stick out for me.
So many things going on.
dry trains were fantastic - never seen so many adults with orange cordial / coke bottles full

Was that when it was snowing sideways, and Joe Lydon kicked the winning drop goal after we'd been behind all game?
Bang on.

Yes! That old commentator from those Micron days came out with some crackers.
A colder game? please do tell

2 i can think off from my personal perspective
1st one away game v Oldham at Watersheddings. Mates girlfriend taken off with hypothermia, and was baltic that day
2nd one, but probably more my own fault was Hull KR away on a Wednesday night in mid January, so i turned up in just shirt, and there was a nice warming breeze blowing in off the Humber estuary. Definitely coldest i've ever been

That’s when we were young & thought we were invincible like the team

I remember a rearranged midweek Challenge Cup tie at Wheldon Road with the pitch covered in thick snow. Memorable, apart from the win, for two things: Grant Anderson nearly decapitating Andy Greg, and my brother almost being ejected by the police for being accused (wrongly) of throwing snowballs at the Cas players...

Wembley 1970. I rode down the A1 from Morley on my 250cc BSA, as I was a learner rider. The further I went, the more the clutch was playing up, so the bike stalled when I stopped.
So I decided I'd go home on the M1 ("No learner drivers") so I wouldn't need to stop. Got pulled up by police around Leicester, told them I had a full licence. Carried on and got pulled again at Sheffield. Ended up with 3 endorsements and a 3 month ban. And we lost to Cas!
