I'm reading "League Freak" on Twitter saying that the NRL should bring in expansionist clubs in big city's to replace (pretty much) every current SL side (including the likes of Wigan and Saints)

They don't understand how sports fandom works in the UK. NRL fans barely support their teams at all, they are very passive. I think they'd support anyone vaguely successful you put in front of them, hence suggesting stuff like this.buttmonkey2 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 13, 2025 10:34 pm I'm reading "League Freak" on Twitter saying that the NRL should bring in expansionist clubs in big city's to replace (pretty much) every current SL side (including the likes of Wigan and Saints)
I'd love to see a wider geographic base and larger markets for RL, but it has to be done by organically growing markets and fan bases, and above all supporting regions consistently over a very long period.

Spot on Mike, I was watching one of the NRL games last weekend, Manly I think, and the crowd was announced as about 12-13K and classes as a good crowd, and I think some teams get even lower crowds, they obviously don't rely on footfall there and to suggest scrapping clubs for city clubs would only work if the TV money was increased greatly, I for one would not go watching Greater Manchester as a club anyway.Mike wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 1:47 pmThey don't understand how sports fandom works in the UK.
