"Meanwhile, anxious Salford City Reds officials are closely monitoring the weather forecast ahead of Friday's clash with Wigan at The Willows.
The pitch is covered with tarpaulins, but has no undersoil heating, and officials are concerned as temperatures are predicted to dip even further before the end of the week.
A spokesman said: "We are working hard to try to protect the playing surface.
"But the weather forecasters are predicting temperatures are going to drop as low as -8 on Friday."
I don't which weather forecasters they've been talking to, I've not seen any predicting -8C unless Salford has been moved to the Shetland Islands whilst I wasn't looking. The BBC say -5, www.weather.co.uk say -3, Metcheck say -3 by 9pm (although the windchill is -7 :o ), Net-weather say -3 and the Met Office say -4. But it's also worth remembering that the coldest temperatures don't actually occur until about 2 or 3am, and I would hope we're not still playing at that time. I'd go for about -3C on Friday night, although the snow has just now finally made it to Manchester for the first time this year.
