Though we may not be getting the full picture.
Personally, if we end up with a group of new players which, as a group, improve us even slightly when compared with the squad we finished last year with, then we'll be well placed to make the play-offs, esp as Hock and Hansen will have bulked up and improved. We could still get there.

Withers is a better centre than we've had this year. Leuluai could be a world class player, and may well be a better partner for Orr.

Millard for Godwin (if true) is the only one that worries me.

Despite the fact that Nobby has saved us from what looked an impossible situation; I still think that this is a mistake.

Orr may not have had the best of times at Wigan - however he still had a year to run on his contract and lets be honest - out of this years team I can easily name half a dozen players who should have been released before him.

If the rumours are to be believed regarding the signing of Withers; then we will have Ashton, Bailey, Withers, McAvoy and the eternally awful DV to cover three positions - surely DV should have been shown the door way before Orr? As, apart from waste salary cap space I fail to see what purpose he serves.

Leuleui has not shown that brightly and is defintely injury prone. With Orr gone, who will cover for Leuleui and Barrett? Are we going to see another half back signing? (apart from Leuleui)
but who would take DV wouid you

can't we make him feel so unwanted that he leaves of his own accord? It worked for Orr! Failing that send him down the job centre!

As I stated earlier - if we sign Withers as is widely mooted - then who is going to play centre out of Bailey, Withers and DV - obviously DV should drop out; although he is supposed to be the highest paid player at the club (although Barrett will probably take that honour now)

Interviewer: So that obviously means that you're not going to St Helens and you're not going to Leeds?

Frano: I don't know why I would ever want to go to St Helens or Leeds

Well that's the problem. I don't see how any of the three rumoured signings take us forward from where we would have been had we retained Orr and Wagga to play with the other players signed already for next season.

In order for us to improve on last year Lulu (if he signs) has got to be better than Orr would have been at scrum half, Millard better than Wagga and anyone who says Withers is a better centre than DV needs to ask the question how much better a centre is he (if at all) than McCavoy and Baily.
Withers is a better centre than we've had this year.

We have already signed Baily and McCavoy and seemingly can't get rid of DV so we have four experienced players vying for two spots.

That is a waste of 20/25 slots and money.
Leuluai could be a world class player, and may well be a better partner for Orr.
So Leuluai is staying at Quins then

We also have 2 young centres Dave who need to be used sparingly in the first team to bring them on.

I agree aad have mentioned this myself previously. Goulding and Gleeson need game time and with Baily, McCavoy already signed and DV surely Withers is surplus to requirements?

Well somebody is Dave. That much I know. DV and I use this phrase inappropriately can only play centre. So can McAvoy IMO. Withers I believe can play fullback, wing, centre.

something else I note. With Orr gone we have lost another possible kicker. I see nobody who can kick goals bar Richards. We may need to train up say Ashton.

That's not strictly true. When he was over here back in (2001?) with the New Zealand squad, before he got his bad injury, he was playing fullback for the Kiwis. It's curious that we've not tried playing him there over the last couple of years when we've been struggling for a fullback, because pre-Ashton he had more experience there than some of the other players we've shoved at the back of the park. He was nothing particularly special in that position, but he was definitely better than the likes of Desi Williams who've we've had in the past...

The singings for next year are worrying me a little. In the next few weeks we have to see some people being signed. At the minute people seem to be leaving but no one is replacing them. When they are being replaced, they are IMO being replaced by lesser or the same standard player. I hope letting Orr go does not come back to haunt us (although i have a feeling it will). Good luck Danny!

All i can say is if we agree or don't we have to put our trust in Nobby. Lets just hope he has made the right decisions!

That just about says it all for me. He was a major reason why we stayed in SL and he clearly was not wanted at Wigan.

What a way to run a club!

If I'm not mistaken Danny Sculthorpe said something similar about Wigan when he signed for Wakey.

Hansen (who played for NZ so is now also a Kiwi)
Doesn't Hansen play for NZ under the grandparent rule. I'm sure there was something on Hansen in the WEP a few weeks ago which said he was an English citizen so would not count on the quota if he played for NZ. Hansen has come through the Wigan academy system and lived in England for a long time.

I do think that there could be too many overseas players in the Wigan squad next year.
