The thing is... as far as I know personally, his wife still has a few weeks to go until birth.

If Long wants to prove international critics wrong and play well for GB, then he should have got his head down, stayed professional off the field. a few drinks is ok on a rest day (no training etc...) but after an international, should really be drinking supplements/water etc...

Obviously we dont know the true story, we can only go off the media and make our own ssumptions... but I would simply get my mind onto the australia match, and nothing else.

He has shamed Aspull again (the 'other' side of aspull) mind you.

Well mud sticks:

So despite not directly disagreeing with the GB official response the above reminds us all (if we needed it) of past transgressions and is IMO a fairly obvious dig at Long for leaving GB in the lurch whatever the reason.

Just a point

worried about his wife but still cute enough to openly hawk himself to Aussie clubs before going home;

Stuart, who yesterday revealed he had been approached by Long's management. Stuart insisted his full support was now behind incumbent Sharks halfback Brett Kimmorley.

"When I initially got the job at Cronulla, Sean Long's management got in touch with me and said would I meet him. I said, 'Yeah, sure'," Stuart said. "That was done. I met with him and his management. There was nothing outside it, nothing untoward. I was just seeing what his thoughts were and he told me he was very keen to play in the Australian competition.

"But since then I've had a couple of very healthy talks with Noddy [Kimmorley]. I decided that the best decision for the Sharks going forward would be to do everything possible to get Noddy and Dykesy [five-eighth Adam Dykes] working together. I'd like to think Noddy is going to be well and truly instrumental in the Sharks."

If true... What a complete and utter idiot!

I wonder what punishment he'll get this time if proven to be true?
A team statement said Long, whose partner is heavily pregnant, had returned home "for personal reasons".

But the BBC's Dave Woods says there are allegations that Long broke a team alcohol ban on Sunday.

But Woods said he was "99%" sure that those allegations were incorrect
BBC Sport
The sneaky lot at the BBC trying to cover their bums... this morning it said something different...
Great Britain's Sean Long has been sent home from the tour of Australia and New Zealand amid allegations that he gambled on the result of matches.
Long, who performed brilliantly during in the victory against Australia in Sydney, is reported to have been asked to leave the squad immediately.

The squad arrived in Sydney on Sunday after the 34-4 loss to New Zealand.

Britain need to beat Australia in Brisbane on Saturday if they are to progress to the Tri-Nations final.

The 29-year-old St Helens half-back was banned for three months in 2004 after being caught betting on his own team to lose a match.

The allegations centred on a match where Saints, missing 11 first team players, lost to Bradford 54-8.

Long was alleged to have bet £1,000 on Saints to lose by more than eight points.

The misdemeanour forced him to hide out from the media in a caravan hidden somewhere in Blackpool, and cost him an estimated £50,000 in legal bills, fines and lost wages

People please try and avoid any libel comments about Sean Long are else Fraggle will get you.

If Long has returned home for personally reason then that is that, like I said before rugby is just a game something are more important. Noble has said that Long has not been kicked out of the GB squad is if the Aussie papers are saying he was kicked out then he can sue them for defamation of character.

The thread has been OK so far. Just a bit of speculation and opinion on what has been said by others. I don't see anyone making direct allegations against Long.

Only if what they are saying is wrong. It doesn't matter that Noble said something different if the papers printed the truth.

Well I for one do not like longy. Thought he had a crap game on Saturday. (along with many others).
I will not throw accusations about but Keiron would not go on tour he's now come home so I wonder what the crack is with the Smellens players and GB tour. Wellens and pryce have been pulling their weight.
Think it shows lack of commitment to the g b cause myself. Hope his wife is ok but then again Flintoff was in Aus when his wife had her baby.
Thing is mud sticks and everyone is gonna think the worst of him, hope they get to bottom of the matter quickly. If anything untoward has occured hope he gets the correct punishment.
If he is trying to get onto an aussie team he's not doing himself many favours imo.
