Re: barrett out for a mont...
A thread has just appeared on RLfans saying TB is out for 6 months!!
Re: barrett out for a mont...
Just seen that thread too and the sooner we know what is happening the better. Hope for Trent's sake he isn't out of action for long. Not surprising really that these things happen when you think these guys are used to being in much higher temperatures than we have over here - especially at the start of the season - any niggling injuries seem to get worse in the cold. No doubt the club will have to say something soon if it is true so we'd all best get our fingers and toes crossed.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Re: barrett out for a mont...
Hopefully we will find out more tonight at the meet the players evening.
Re: barrett out for a mont...
Even if the above were true, which I don't believe it is, in the world of a the salary cap sides need players like Orr who don't cost the earth but are good enough compared to their contemporaries in the rest of the competition.Doug Stand posted:
Had Danny Orr been around, then we still would have been enetring the start of the season without a stand-off good enough for Wigan.
Orr proved he was more than good enough to compete last season so where this not good enough for Wigan comes from I don't know.
In which case since Lockers is nigh on useless at 6 does that not mean he isn't a decent loose-forward if the above is true?So I supopse we'll see O'Loughlin play there.
You know, the more I think about this, the more I don't understand. Everyone raves about O'Loughlin at loose-forward, but really any decent loose-foward in todays game should be good enough to play stand-off.
It is no use saying we will have to play lockers there because a loose forward he ought to be able to play 6. He can't and the sooner Noble realises the better.
Lockers has played at 6 for Wigan before the Hudds friendly and simply was not very good at it. His best position is 13. Or is Lockers not good enough for Wigan also?
You also have to factor in if we play Lockers at 6 then someone else has to play 13 who does not normally do so.
If Barrett is out this musical chairs to plug the gap just shows how little depth we have in the squad and why it should not have been allowed to get to the stage where players like Orr were let go.

Wasn't this the justification for signing Withers and Millard?DaveO posted:

Perhaps the logic is that you'll rotate certain positions, such as hooker, but not a so-called pivotal position like stand-off - hence we don't need a SO on the bench. But it doesn't have to be that way - surely the scrum-half can adapt his game to two different players - didn't Leeds used to use McGuire that way?
As for the Barrett out for 6 months rumour, I'll wait for an official announcement.

Just are luck that
Briers has broke his leg anyroad and wellens went off on a stretcher

Re: barrett out for a mont...
Doug Stand posted:So what makes a player good enough for Wigan these days? I don't really understand your criteria. Orr played well in fits and starts before 2006.The Danny Orr not good enough comes from three years of inept performances. He's an OK RL player, maybe even a decent one for Cas or London but for Wigan he is simply not good enough. Again to re-iterate, half a dozen games, does not make him good enough.
In his first season he just looked to be getting going then was injured and out for a while. He had a good back end to 2005. Not outstanding but he improved which is why at the start of 2006 hos form was mystifying.
But then in 2006 you know as well as I do many players under-performed until Millward left and in the latter half of 2006 under Noble Orr was probably the form stand off in the entire competition.
Orr's performances for Wigan make me think you must consider the majority of the squad not to Wigan standard because he was at least the equal to most and better then many.
One of the facts of RL life today is you can't have superb players in every position. You have to accept some merely "good" players will out of necessity have to be good enough for Wigan.
Is Orr as good as Barrett? Of course not but he is a darn sight better than an injured Barrett. If Barrett is out for six months as rumoured we won't have a stand off available as good as Orr.
People go on about players like DV stealing wages well Barrett is obviously not on peanuts and I can't help but think a squad with Orr in it and an extra experienced prop forward would go better than one with Barrett in it and no prop. It's the all our eggs in one basket approach again and this speculation on his injury just shows the folly in that. Yes a fit Barrett is no doubt good enough for Wigan in your eyes (I assume) but I think Orr was good enough for competition we play in when we have the salary cap to consider.

Re: barrett out for a mont...
Having a general chat on the phone asking was anything going on at the JJB, the reply was no not really apart from there is something wrong around Barrett, I asked what. The reply was no one knows but his name is being bantered about the place. I said what does that mean and was told problems but did not know what problems. A veil of mystery has been put over his name at the moment and not in a good way, I said don‘t tell me that, the reply being I’m sure it is nothing!
I wished Id never phoned now.
