to be hoenst, if we sign briscoe i wont be bothered, he's a decent well established full back who has proved he can cut it at the top. could be a good signing and isn't short of pace.
I'd still hope we can do better; Briscoe doesn't impress me at all, and can't even hold down the fb spot at Hull - he's been alternating with Motu Tony all year. Better than Withers, admittedly, but not that good.
I'd want our quota spot to be used on a fullback, if any of the top ones are available. Brett Hodgson apparently is, don't know contract details of the others.
you see id rather have briscoe a good solid fullback, and use qouta spot on a position were we have really faield to make much impact voer the past 3 years, use it on a CENTRE. buy a good centre, you know a cooper kind of player, or a gasnier (although injured). that sort of signing, briscoe wouldn't cost alot, buy a deadly centre, id retain vaealiki on a 1 year deal to see how he does on a much smaller wage, and then bring in andy coley or a different english prop.

It's more cost effective to have a top-class fullback than a top class centre; they have more influence on a game, if only because they have less support in that position. That's why Rads felt he couldn't play fullback any more when he came back.
Too true GeoffN, but our replacement FB for Ashton should be fast, ok maybe not as quick as Ashton, but qick, and defensively better than Ashton.
Not saying tht Ashton is completely dire in defence, but he can go to sleep ocasionally, but I have got to give him credit where it is due, he has improved defensively since Cardiff.
He looks like he has worked on that area of his game, as he knows it is his weakest.

Sorry Geoff, dont agree, Withers is way ahead of Briscoe ever being, IMO.

Withers at his peak, agreed, but not the present one; too old & too slow for the fullback spot. Useful on the bench, as he can cover all the 1-7 positions in an emergency, but that's about all.
Personally, I wouldn't even give him a bench spot; I think Goulding has more to offer.
