Posted this on the edwards thread but should be here.

Currently it is a DW hobby job. He goes maybe the new owners wont be so ready to stick their hands in their pockets. MO has not dropped a ball or commited a foul. Played badly. On paper we have the players. Their contracts are the problem. Give them contracts that can be terminated due to lack of effort and see the improvement. Nobby said the wigan case was good but RL did not want to know. How much power does Mo wield? As chairman he gets the flack but who puts forward the proposals. You talk as if the club is managed by two people. The club may change hands but the management staff will still be there.Just like a council after elections the execatives will still be employed. Where were you when he started and where are you now. I remember in my army days the main football team was Leeds. Where are they now? Doncaster was bidding for superleague franchise, where are they now. Wigans fan base is hugh in comparison to some, why? because of the product served up by MO. A lot on this site and in the stands were not born when Mo first sat on the wigan board. They are there becase Mo believed in wigan. They sit in the JJB because DW stuck his hand in his pocket and bailed out a club due for extinction. Hold your heads up. Let MO go out with pride in what he has achieved. Let DW make his decission in peace and pride. In other words get off their backs. They have made the statement you wanted. The new chairman inherits the same problems and restrictions they have been working under. Lets see if in a couple of years this decission is right or if you just changed one chairman for another. It has been nice to see some of the old boys on here remembering where they started and now where wigan are with appriciation. HC

After 2 very crappy day some very good news.

Re: Takeover

It is interesting that Nobbys contract runs out next season and that Edwards has just signed a 1 year contract. Simply put Nobby will go to OZ and we will get Edwards as coach. Im not one for rumors but coincidence i dont believe either.

But MO will be gone

LETS HAVE A DISCO.

I honestly think ML was going to stand down if we had reached Wembley. Judging from the interview on Granada Reports he looked devestated and not a picture of health.

Without ML we would never have become the most successful and famous RL club of all time. Whilst his second spell at the helm has not be as successful, fans should remember the good times and not the bad. The pathetic performance of Sunday certainly wasn't his fault.

We are now moving into the unknown. If DW does sell there is a possibility that we could end up with an owner who has lots of money - but doesn't have any passion for the club; or an owner who has lots of passion buy no cash.

How much free cash does an owner need these days? All the club has to do is turn over £3.3m and we will do this easily irrespective of who owns us.

It's the cost of all the other items like Orrell that are unknown. We may have to reign in a bit in these areas but in terms of building or maintaining a team we will be a strong financially as anyone else.

It would have to be somebody with considerable finance. Dave Whelan will not sell Wigan RLFC cheaply. Those mentioning ex players as prospective buyers are way off the mark. I hope it is a genuine fan and somebody relatively young.

For what it is worth I think ML had the best interests of the club at heart. However, as the saying goes, never return. He did superbly in his first spell. In his second he has made several mistakes is too old and lacking the health to run the club properly. I presume he will move to Aus.

Losing DW? Big question mark until we know who and what is proposed? DW is a good owner in many ways and having one owner for both clubs sharing a single ground is probably far easier. However, he is elderly and he cannot take clubs forward on his own. A complete change may be the best option. It does raise question re the ground, safeguards as to tenure and even Orrell.

Excited BUT cautious.
I agree it will be similar to when Souness attempted to buy a football club. It was not his money but he was the front man in the deal which did not transpire. Ive a feeling an ex player will be involved in some capacity.

This change is needed as we are going no where at the moment.

Jinkin Jimmy is right.
In these days of the cap an ultra wealthy backer is almost made redundant because he cannot use his money.
now that we are to a normal club again and stand alone this means that merchandising revenue will all be ours again rather than a small percentage as was before under the terms of the deal we had. (at least that would be logical to assume).
We are way over the turnover we need to be maximum cap so it doesn't really come into it.
The lease on the ground is secure - he has already said that, so no worries on that score either.

I am happier today than any of those Stains fans going to Wembley. I am ecstatic!

My vote is for John Martin.
Saved the club once
Now let him lead it!

My concern would be that someone buys the club that wants to make a profit from it rather than someone who wants to take it back to success. We are one of the very few SL clubs to make a profit and this makes us vulnerable to a Glazier like figure who sees a way of making money.

DW may have said that he would only sell to someone who cares as much about the club as he does; however he's not going to say "club to highest bidder; no matter how unscrupulous" is he?
