If Colbon and our coaching staff can get his pace back I think he has the makings of a decent winger and a useful lad to have in the squad. He takes the ball out of defence really well with great metres, offloads regularly and doesn't make many mistakes. Give the lad credit for going for the corner and bear in mind that Maguire and Webb are hardly the slowest players in the league. Liam seems like a dedicated trainer, behaves impeccably and doesn't cost the club a fortune. A local lad who is a good role model and he should get another season for me. Ade Gardner didn't break many pots in his early days with Saints but put on some pace to add to his strength and looks a decent winger now - my opinion of course.

I am afraid all the positives you list can be attributed to lots of player who would like to play for Wigan but at the end of the day being a dedicated trainer etc isn't enough if the end product isn't good enough.

Professional sport is ruthless at the top and you win nothing for being nice to players who try their best but are not quite good enough.

at the end of the day the guy is pointing out that if Colbon has any pace at all, the game would of been very different!

but he hasn't! never has! bloody winger my rigg!
Yes he has, a few seasons ago he was one of the fastest players in the Wigan squad. The mystery is where has the pace has gone; poor training, time missed while at university, his training with the army.

Wigan have never signed any so called speed merchants of late, apart from Calderwood who is recently back from a bad ankle injury. In his days at Wests, Richards wasnt one of the fastest wingers in ARL. We sign Bailey at centre (2nd rower), Carmont - average speed centre. Mathers, bad injury again. It is maybe time Wigan looked at a fast guy, and I hope as some people have suggested that Greg Inglis is on his way over. He is very fast, strong, and can change direction on athripenny bit.

When Wigan RLFC were building to the next level a charismatic wingman defied all logic and scored in the corner v Leeds to secure the JPS trophy. He had that little bit of magic and a year or two later he showed it at Wembley. Later he hobbled around with a crippling knee injury but refused to let the club down. He was a winner.

We used to employ sprint coaches in those days. Maybe the so proud IL should invest in a sprint coach instead of blaming officials.

Stanton and Ainscough would have scored. Neither will ever get an opportunity though. Not with Noble.

Well if you listen to the latest interview from IL he says the back need to be more incisive and more pacey (forget the exact words but that sums up what he said) and he hopes they can get there which is a clear nod to them they need to be faster.

Whether if they can't get there we will see changes, who knows.

Is his loss of pace not down to the fact he is probably quite a bit heavier than he was when he first got in to the side? He is only 2kg less than Hock according to the website.

Having so much extra weight is going to make a difference.

Phelps best attacking effort that I have seen was at fullack. So he may be an option at FB and put Richards back on the wing. N.B He missed tackles. Not as bad as Mathers but getting there lol.
