Thought our defense was outstanding tonight, Mossop in particular for the time he was on the pitch. We were really unlucky at the end, and on a dry day he would have been 3 or 4 metres short, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Roberts had an absolute stinker and was a liability for the most part of the match. Thaler was an absolute joke! Watching on sky, the amount of things he got wrong (both ways)was unbelieveble. There was one definate occassion that he got the tackle count wrong, the one the two performing monkeys on sky pointed out, but I'm sure i spotted a couple more. Great performance, just the wrong result, but I'll bet it's got a few in primrose and blue worried for next week.

Outstanding effort and attitude from the lads, which is a massive step forward, only let down by poor execution and tactics. Yet again we get drawn into a low-scoring, defensive battle and lose. Surely it's clear to everyone by now that the games we win are the high-scoring ones, where we throw the ball about (even in poor conditions). Sure, some will still get dropped, but we were still dropping balls even from the short inside passes.

It should also be clear to all that Phelps is a utility back, and a good one, but never a specialist fullback. Fair enough he was put under pressure for his first drop, but for the second there was no-one near him.

Duty of care to Roberts? If Ainscough had made as many mistakes in both attack and defence, he'd quite rightly get dropped to the reserves.

Having said all that, with a bit of luck we could still have won, and there's no reason why we can't win our next 5 games...

I noticed on the Sky commentary that even Phil Clarke and the others are pointing out what we've been saying for ages, that one of the best things to happen to us this year is the injury to Tim Smith.

opening 20 our forwards didn't stand up and be counted.
imo we were so lucky to go in the sheds leading.

we deserved to concede the late try from our 2nd half performance.
we had ample oppotunities to close the game down. the number of brainless kicks on 3rd, 4th and 5th was a joke.

what makes it worse is standing there we knew what was coming. everytime we gave the ball over we could feel it. everyone round me agreed. we beat ourselves.

One thing that has stood out for me is...if the weather is wet and cold DO NOT play Roberts he has only performed in the dry and warm games, doesnt look interested and cant hold on to the ball when wet! He has been playing well of late but last night he could perform in the conditions!

I think you are being a bit optimistic there Geoff. If Aiscough was ever as bad as Roberts was last night (apart from his one break the one time he caught the ball) he would be playing for St Judes 4th team!!

just got on line in sunny tenerife, great game last night. best team lost IMO. Also i cant see why roberts was ever signed for 5 yrs. Its not a lets slate roberts post but bloody hell your playin out side a quality centre and still cant get your runs right enough said. anyway lets hope we have given ourselfs enought belief to get to the cc final. IMO Ridele had a standout game followed by sam etc.

I dont understand all the critisicm of the backs, they get swapped around and messed about with too much to get any consistancy going, so Im not going to lay into them, I thought our props were slightly off tonight, we just couldnt seem to get out of our own 20m line, and we had wingers and centres taking the ball up for one man out rugby for the fist 3 tackles every set (which I will never understand).

They seemed to just lack that little bit of urgency tonight, but Im not going to pick on one player and say its your fault, you win and loose as teams.

For what its worth i thought we played very well i felt that our major problem was in the last 15 mins we tried to contain stains rather than go for the juggular. THe reason stains have been so succesful is that they never play containing rugby they look to put points on your at all times right up to the last minute.

Amos roberts was nothing short of abysmal!, will he be dropped? no he wont because he's older and an aussie which means by proxy he is better than any of our youth, Noble must drop Amos after dropping Ainscough for much less
